Feeling quite frustrated now. Empty Feeling quite frustrated now.

Post by Guest Tue Oct 02, 2012 6:57 pm

I had to take Flo in to the vets this evening as she has had her bandages off again - or mostly off anyway. On removing them this time her legs were looking quite sore and painful. The bandages have obviously been rubbing inspite of the soft bandages. On balance and with discussion with the nurse and 2 vets we have decided to leave her bandages off for 24hours at least until we can see the rabbit vet. One foot is looking much better but the other is still looking sore. I just don't know what to do for the best now.

Could you not get/make some padded socks for her?

Poor Flo Sad

And poor you - it's tough when you are trying to help and nothing seems to be working and you end up with a grumpy bunny Sad

I'm at a loss for what to suggest. Does she actually seem uncomfortable? Is she moving around normally?

Easier said than done. We started with socks. I think the elastic would rub the sore bits now.

I am hoping the vet will have some thoughts tomorrow.

Could you not use velcro tabs to hold the socks up instead of elastic?

Just at the moment I think any fabric friction there could be detrimental. Flo's new sores are to the inside of her legs right above the hock elbow. Above this the leg thickens so it would be almost impossible to get anything to hold up on that point without causing another similar problem.

I do but the 3 professionals today told me not to use it. The feeling from them is that the skin needs to breath not be smothered.

Goodness - I don't know what to suggest. We left Daisy's uncovered and just covered the floor with really soft fleece but his were not as bad as Flo's.

Hope the vet tomorrow can come up with a solution xxxxx

Am at work so can't remember the name but I do know of a cream that comes highly recommended for sore hocks. Will look it out when I get home, I actually bought some in 'just in case'.

Sore hocks is a horrid condition to try to treat. Sending loads of vibes and hugs xx

Well the vet thinks that we will try just socks held on with micropore. And Flo is to have 2 weeks of septrin. She hasn't put any weight on, but she hasn't lost any either.

Well the weight thing is good. At least she hasn't lost any.

I hope you can work something out to hold something on till her wounds heal. I can't think of anything that could help. Hugs Hugs Hugs

I am hoping the micropore will be ok as it is quite soft. I have had to not use the sainsburys socks as they have grippy bits on the bottom and stick to the floor then slip straight off. I am going to have to buy a load more socks from Asda shortly. She has quite a few odd socks now.

Her sores as discovered yesterday are looking much better, although one has really scabbed up.

This is the cream that was recommended by a very experienced bunny owner

http://www.healx.co.uk/sp.html

There is a pic of sore hocks at the bottom of the page and the improvement with using the cream.

HI

i agree fresh air can be the best healer helps it dry up also if you haven't already keep her on vet bed even if it doesn't help heal them it will certainly make her feel more comfortable

also Carrs natural improver is fab for rabbits gets them in tip top condition giving them more healing power

i do feel for her poor bun nothing as uncomfortable as sore skin its hell!

kind regards

I have no advise that has not already been given, but I did have a picture in my mind of Flo in horizontal striped stockings held up by suspenders. I must be tired. LOL
