Help me with indoor set ups
Okay so, we hopefully have this new house (yay!), its rented so some things are a no no.But there is a craft cupboard (I named it my craft cupboard! haha) and its only 3 foot deep but its about 12 foot long, and has lots of shelves,so thats my craft space. I may have to have Domino in there, and have a stairgate across it. But he may be able to go in the lounge or dining room, it is a very small house so space is an issue.
But if worst comes to worst, the craft walk in cupboard is a poss. Its kind of like a pantry.
But, I am wondering what the best set up for him is :/ He is being very good with his litter again but he is really messy because of his partial sight issues. He really doesnt move around much these days, so I am wondering if a large indoor cage is best, with lots of out time. I am at home all day every day so hes "cooped up" time is quite minimal.
Some suggestions would be great please guys. Hes more of a snuggle bunny these days than an active bun. (was he ever active? )

Re: Help me with indoor set ups
Hi,
The walk in cupboard sounds like a good space that could be made a very cosy hideaway for Domino.
We also live in a very small house (feels like a large hutch sometimes) so with Myrtle the only option is to have her in the living room free range. This works for her and it works for us as she is not too active (lazy!) and very timid so wont investigate wires or be much of a destructobun.
We do need to do regular poo patrol and hoover everyday though.
Could Domino be trusted to be a free range bun?

Re: Help me with indoor set ups
Its very hard to say to be completely honest, he is destructive...or he was. Now hes a single bun, and partially blind, his life has changed a lot so I dont know what he would be like. Problem is, big noises scare him. I went into the conservatory last night about midnight, and i forgot to say hello to him as I walked in, and he went ballistic, he darted about and hit himself on the sides of the set up, he was petrified. I dont think health wise he could cope being free range. The way the house is set up, the cupboard door opens up into the dining room, so he could come out whenever im around, and thats alot!

Re: Help me with indoor set ups
I think the most important thing is for Domino to have somewhere that he can feel safe and secure. My feeling is the craft cupboard as it may feel more 'enclosed' to him if that makes sense. I may be completely wrong about that though! I am sure whatever you decide you will be done as brilliantly as possible for Domino.

Re: Help me with indoor set ups
We have had a couple of blind bunnies, Angel was in a pen most of the day and when we moved house we made a pen up at this bungalow exactly the same as in the old house as they hate change when they are blind and get disorientated if you move anything in the pen, during the night he was kept in an indoor cage as I felt it was safer for him.
Helen and Baby Saint are in a pen with no indoor cage or indoor hutch as with Baby Saint being disabled and blind it would be difficult for her to get in and out of anything like that so their pen is all one level. Helen can fall over sometimes as she has a twisted spine but what we usually do with bunnies that are apt to fall over is to get a pair of clean long socks we usually use Mikes black socks and stuff a towel in one sock and the rest of the towel in the other sock, pulling the sock's to meet each other in the middle and you end up with a long sausage like draught excluder which is quite bendy and we will put these all round the pen and if the rabbit falls he will not hurt himself.

Re: Help me with indoor set ups
Maysie thats actually a very valid point, because its not just that hes blind, its that hes blind and less mobile. its not like he is otherwise a healthy bunny who can run about, he cant, he "plods" along and his back leg often gets left behind So an indoor cage is out of the question, because he couldnt get out of it for playtime.
He does like to be enclosed, he has a carrier as his litter tray because some days the light hurts his eyes, as you can see him squinting, and he hides in there.
So the craft cupboard is ideal, because hes in the centre of the house, lots of visitors, etc. But hes "away" enough that a noise wont affect him. We are going to get a stairgate so that we can have the door open and he can see us if he wants too
