vibes for Daisy and Patch Empty vibes for Daisy and Patch

Post by paullp Wed Dec 12, 2012 11:04 pm

I just went to say goodnight to the outdoor buns and whilst crawling around their run, scooping up poos, noticed some slightly wet poo. When I looked around a bit more there was some clearish slime and when I checked the litter tray there were some slimy poos stringed together with the clear slime. I think it is from Daisy as they were both hopping around me and normal poo was dropping from Patch. Sad

Has anyone come across this before? I have added pro c to their water since noticeing this.

I started a new bag of spring greens and kale for them this morning -, just a tiny bit of kale as Im not sure if Daisy has had it before. Could that be it? there was nothing in their run when I cleaned them out at 18.00.

They are both in their usual character but I am worried about them. I have an appointment with the vet tomorrow to get them microchipped too.

Please can they have some hopper vibes?

Wished I had logged on earlier now.

I know this may sound crude but does the jelly poo smell quite bad ? there is a few things it could be and some are very serious . The clear jelly poo could be a sign of coccidia or even a bacterial infection but any rabbit doing jelly like poo needs a vet straight away as it is not a good sign. Is there any diarreah at all as if there is it's serious as she will need to see a vet vet asp and Keep her warm.

Hope Daisy will be ok sending her loads of Vibes xxx

There is no diarrhoea and it didn't have any smell at all, I wasn't even too sure it was poo till I saw the litter tray. They have two freshly warmed up heat pads but i am at work now.

As I was leaving the house I checked on them but they were running around the run rather than on the heat pad.

Their appointment is at 17.30

Thanks for all the info and hugs! I am sure the vibes will help them.

Just logged on to see how they are as I have been thinking about them. Glad to hear there is no diarrhoea and they sound as if they are ok, it could just have been the Kale after all I hope so and nothing else.

Topping up the Vibes for them both and hoping their vet appointment goes well xxxxx

" I have encountered it, it was connected to teeth and it indicates an inflammaton in the lining of the GI tract....in my case because one of my dental bunnies hadn't been eating enough.

My bun had to have a dental to correct his molar problems and was on a combination of probiotic, baytril, metacam and tagamet afterwards (he also had a UTI at the same time). Thankfully he went on to make a full recovery....he was my first dental bunny and at the time I ddn't know what to look for in order to catch the problem early.

I think you should be taking your bun to another vet for a second opinion as it's not considered normal, and he may well be due a dental....so an oral examination would be helpful."

I had jelly-like poo when I had all my tummy trouble when I was younger. Apparently it is a symptom of an inflamed intestine - the trick is to find out why and sort it out. In the end I had all sorts thrown at me at once - Panacur, Metaclopramide and Flagyl as far as I remember. Something certainly sorted me out Thumbs Up

Lots of vibes for them both, I hope they are ok Hugs Hugs Hugs

Hi, thanks for the vibes!
The vet said it was an inflamed bowel. I took slimy poo in which the vet prodded. They said they would send it off if daisy continued to be ill but as they were both nomming hay and their tums felt fine I could keep it.
Daisy's poo was a bit better before the vet and I think it seems almost back to normal now.

They are both chipped now too! Robo-buns!

We think it was the kale, so myrtle will eat the rest of that. Daisy and patch only seem to get on with cabbage.

Thanks again for all the support and advice! I went home at lunchtime to recharge their heat pads, I think they liked that.

I'm glad she seems better already Smile

Have you tried them on any herbs? They can be gentler on bunny tums. Coriander is a good one to start with as it's not too strong Thumbs Up

Poor little thing, they ate snuggled up on heat pads now

If she's still not right by Monday I'd consider getting her back to the vet and on some meds. Humum and the vet battled my digestion for weeks trying all sorts of adjustments to my diet and in the end it took a round of meds to sort me out. I've been fine since despite not being a great hay eater. I don't know if it's even worth getting the slimy poo tested - if Daisy had a round of wormer, broad spectrum antibiotic and Metaclopramide like I did, that should cover just about anything that could cause an inflamed gut.

I agree with Sparky - the buns digestion is such a delicate thing - and can be dangerous too.

i would take her back to the vet and ask for the meds Sparky has suggested, just to eliminate all options.

Post by paullp Fri Dec 14, 2012 8:18 pm

thanks guys. I will definately go back to the vet if Daisy continues as she is.

There were no soft poos at all today when I got back from work but the clear ones were done between 21.00 and 22.00 yesterday and Wednesday so hopefully today will be ok.

They havent had any veg today and reduced pellets, I am also changing hay for fresh hay more frequently because they always nom the fresh hay.

I will update later, thanks again!

No jelly today! No runny poo either. They are both doing golden poo cheers there have also been some uneaten caecotrophs.

No veg or pellets this morning today, just lots of hay.

When do you guys think they should start veg and/or pellets again?
I think I might try them on small amounts of herbs at first

This Thumbs Up

What pellets do you feed? We went away from just using Burgess Excel and onto a mix of Science Selective and Excel. If I had to pick one, I'd use SS (we feed a mix just in case we can't get one of the foods for any reason - they are used to both then. When you have 14 you buy it by the sack Laughing )

They were on burgess excel sensitive, it should have a bit more fibre than normal excel. I will try to get a small amount of science selective and introduce it to them slowly to see if its ok.

They are both big hay eaters so we get through loads of it!
