Can you buy Baytril anywhere?

The vet charges loads for a small amount and is handy to have at home so wondered if you can buy it anywhere without prescription?

It's a prescription only medicine. You could ask your vets if they'd write a prescription and order it online from somewhere like www.vetuk.co.uk

I thought about buying POM on-line for our cat as she is now on regular medication for her kidneys.

My vet assured me it would be no cheaper as he would have to charge for actually issuing a prescription

The law changes in October to allow vets to start charging for prescriptions again but at the moment it is illegal to do so.

oooh - so once you have got a prescription where does everyone buy baytril? i just looked at vetuk and they only seem to have a huge bottle for £180 quid??!!

Most places will sell it in bulk, it's not really financially viable to sell in small amounts as it has a shelf-life once opened so they'd need to make sure they sold a whole bottle fairly soon or they'd have to reduce the price before it 'goes off' or have lost out on half a bottle they didn't sell.

One thing to consider is that some vets do charge more for prescription drugs because they charge less for things like consultations and surgeries. Mine are the opposite and have more expensive consultancy fees, but sell meds nearly at cost and the surgery prices aren't too bad. I'm happy to pay that little bit extra for consultancy fees to get the meds at a good price - afterall, they are a business and need to make money to stay open.
