Rabbit Treats
Hi, we were told by the Vet, quite sternly, that we shouldn't buy the sticky nutty treat thingies for Bunny, as they contain too much sugar. Well, me having bought a stack load so treats to hang in his run and hutch, threw them away. I know they mustn't have too many but surely the odd one isn't too bad? They are boredom breakers surely and also good for their teeth? We give him a few bunny chocolate drops and yoghurt drops each day but was just wondering about these treat sticks?
Advice appreciated.

Re: Rabbit Treats
the odd one or two wont do any harm, i give mine one like every few months or so but to be honest,i find the best treats for them are like, banana or apple chips, or alfalfa chips for example.
many people give veggies as treats but il be honest i do give mine treats! they love alfalfa chips the best

Re: Rabbit Treats
I heard the same sort of thing about the treats that are "stuck" together so I avoid them completely - I get good quality hay for the teeth and I stick to the Boredom Breakers Naturals range - Gingko, Dandelion, all those yummy things. I also got the large Willow rings from P@H, Carlton goes wild for them and all that nibbling must be good for his teeth.
You could make some bunny biscuits? At least you know what's in them, click here for a delicious recipe!

i give mine herbs plus (boredom breakers - naturals) as a treat which they love and aren't as bad as the sweet ones. then they occasionally get a bit of fruit as a treat.

Carlton will actually chew my face off to get to his Herbd Plus! Sometimes I put some Coneflower of the Trio of Fruit Leaves and he just looks at it and looks at me as if to say "er, where's the Herbs Plus??!"

Re: Rabbit Treats
I avoid 'stick treats' because not only are they stuck together with what is quite frankly, rubbish, but they contain a host of seeds and nuts which are not a natural part of a rabbits diet. Certain seeds like millet make me wonder about their digestability too. They are also fattening.
It's amazing how many pet 'treats' are not fit for purpose.
I also don't feed youghurt/chocolate drops. Treats for mine are a slice of apple, carrot peel or some dried herbal forage mix....much better for their digestion and their teeth.

Re: Rabbit Treats
Ours go beserk for the Oxbow papaya and pineapple tablets.
They can hear the rattle of the pot from the other side of the garden.
I think they are addicted
They also enjoy the occasional raisin but all turn their noses up at other fruits.

Re: Rabbit Treats
That sounds a good idea - do you soak the oats first or just mix them in the fruit?

Re: Rabbit Treats
Evo's favourite treat is porridge oats - only a teeny pinch though, as they are fattening. At least they are natural though.
