Pellets - how much, how often?
Humum is currently weighing out 140 feeds a week, and she says quite frankly it is very boring (how food can bore her, I don't know...)
We all get around 15-20g of pellet food twice a day - at 6.30am and 6.30pm ish. We get some veggies, not masses, at 4.30pm.
She is thinking of cutting out the evening feed, and increasing the morning feed a bit if necessary. Obviously she'll cut it down gradually, not just stop altogether.
When do you feed your buns, and how much? Bear in mind we have no egg cups or shot glasses so have no idea how much an egg-cup of pellets would be in weight, so weights or piccies of a 'portion' would be helpful.
(It goes without saying that we get stacks of hay, of course. Hay consumption has noticably increased since reducing pellet food from 'winter' portions)

Re: Pellets - how much, how often?
I have just weighed 1/4 cup of pellets and it was 30g if that helps at all. You can pick up cup measures quite cheaply in most supermarkets.

Mine is not as accurate as yours all mine are fed once a day [in the morning] and they get a varied amount depending on bun. Marshall has a pinch of nuggies where as Maysie will get a small handful as this seems to make her happier for the rest of the day. {she was getting grumpy and biting the bars/ripping up newspaper and eating it on less. C&A get about 30g in the morning and the same in the eve... they also get a small bowlfull of veg morning and evening. They are allowed grass munching time from 3pm - 9pm out free ranging and unlimited hay of course.
I feel im giving them quite a lot of nuggs but i am trying to feed charlie up!
Daisy gets a proper teeny amount - prob something like 20 little pellets and a teeny bit of veg morning and night - the rest of the time its hay.

Re: Pellets - how much, how often?
T and MJ get a 'handful' each twice a day (how much I can hold in a closed hand-one in the morning, one at night before bed). When they went to boarding in April I had to measure that out! We don't have egg cups either but my OH hoards ramekins etc and it turns out my 'handful' is half a Gu Mini Pud tub.
I recommend buying a pack of Gu mini puds, eating them and then using the tubs for measuring
Apart from pellets (and lots of hay!) they only get herbs and dried forage. T gets a few barley rings as well as she seems a bit skinny.

She seems quite taken with that idea. She thinks she might have to eat 16 GU mini puds as there are 16 of us. I tried explaining that she actually only needs one pot but barely got started before she suddenly interrupted to declare it was my bedtimeiiisecondcreep wrote:I recommend buying a pack of Gu mini puds, eating them and then using the tubs for measuring

One feed per day?
I'm not keen on that idea and I'm sure Layla, Theo, max and Mason will be less keen

Don't worry - she thinks you'll need two feeds otherwise Layla will pig it all after you hop away, M&M are still growing boys and Theo is already half-starvedFather Jack wrote:One feed per day?

They come in packs of 3, so she will need to eat at least 3

Re: Pellets - how much, how often?
Ooooohhhhhh getting excited about gu puds. Who would have thought feeding rabbits could be this exciting!
On a serious note, in the morning mine get a pile of fresh hay in their litter tray and a handful of pellets sprinkled on top so they have to forage a bit. They then get some veg at night about 10 and nothing else. Hay is usually eaten by morning. Their weight has stayed the same on this diet - they also survive on a diet of carpet and wallpaper!

Re: Pellets - how much, how often?
Ours have a small amount of dried food in the morning and for elevenses they have a piece of cucumber, at least the guineas do, Binks doesn;t like it so he has a little watercress or something simlar.
At night they have a handful of fruit and veg which sees them through until the morning.
Hugs
JO xx

Re: Pellets - how much, how often?
ours get a handful of nuggets each morning at 06.30, if it is any later they will let us know.
I have just weighed what I call a handful and it is 20 g (half is burgess excel, half is science selective). they also get some veg at the same time.
At 16.30 they get some herbs from the garden and at 21.00 they get a crunchie each or 2-3 carrotys.
fresh hay available always!

Re: Pellets - how much, how often?
Pellets a palm full for Brekkie. Lunch is baby greens and 2 baby carrots. Bunny Bedtime is 2 small bites of apple and a palm full of pellets. Timothy hay all day...and night. Rory loves his hay SO much. If he feels any of the above is late he will push his ceramic bowl across our ceramic quarry tile to make it RING!
A choccie delight I'd never heard of! Gü Puds! Sadly, the contest for their next flavor is only for UK folk. I have ideas......
