Oooh come on Dodge, mate, you can do it!
Glad he's brighter, it's awful when they're just listless and miserable.
'I'm sending lots of "huge poo" vibes your way

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
Dodge has been to the vets again today. Hes had more fluids and fluids under the skin. he also had an injection to move his bowels but not sure what that was. He shouldn't be in any pain as he had metacam this morning and he will be back in the vets tomorrow for the emergency clinic
We've had some poos but he is still very bloated. the poos have been very small but its a good sign that he's pooping. I've never been so excited about poop before...he did a whopper this morning (was a few poos stuck together by an icky sticky jelly like substance (sorry if thats too much info guys) Not sure why it was like that or what the substance was.
He has managed to eat a little spring green this morning and has had small amounts of water.
He is only hourly syringes of science recovery and infacol every 3 hours followed by water. His tummy is making lots of noise now which I'm presuming is a good sign. He doesn't really want to move so I have to keep chasing him much to his disapproval. He has lost alot of weight and is nothing but skin and bones
I have been rubbing his belly and can still feel blockages but its clearing slowly. He will have another drip tomorrow as he is severely dehydrated. Hes definately showing signs of improvement!!
Is there anything else that I can do?

Has your Vet said what the cause of the tummy problems are ? More often than not GI stasis is a symptom of another primary problem.

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
They haven't said anything, just that he is improving now. When he is well enough they are going to put him under GA to check his teeth. They tried checking them but couldn't see any noticeable problems and he can't go under GA just yet because he is unstable. I'm not sure if thats the right thing for them to do as I haven't dealt with anything like this before.
I would be severely lost without this place and everyones knowledge

Sorry Dodge has been poorly. It's a horribly worrying time when they're ill, isn't it?
Glad to hear he has picked up a bit and hope he's back to normal very soon x

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
I've been out of my mind worrying about him. I've never had any problems with the others, its so stressful.
I'm glad that I can come here for help though otherwise I don't think I would cope.

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
Dodge has been to the vets again this morning, they advised that he is severely underweight and dehydrated.
Is there a healthy way that I can pile the weight on him?
The vets havent been able to check his back teeth so he will need to go under GA for it but they will not do it untill he has put on weight. Poor little guy will not survive going under GA as he is still young and very small for his age.
He is continuing on the same treatments and having fluids under the skin daily.
The good news is that he is now pooing so thank you for the vibes everyone and he is eating his veges today along with some hay.
I still need all the help I can get as he has to double in weight according to the vets as he is "not a fine specimine at the moment"

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
Oh hunny... porridge made with water is an excellent way of putting weight in. Mash banana or put raisens in it to encourage
Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
Porridge and sweet foods need to be introduced slowly post stasis as they both contain ingredients which can re-trigger digestive upsets. I would also not give porridge to a dehydrated rabbit, they absorb moisture from the intestines and this could lead to the porridge becoming dry and gloopy and harder to process by the GI tract.
I would start initially by giving him access to a higher protein pellet (after switching carefully) and also offer him ready grass which is more nutritious than ordinary hay. If he dosn't have it already offer him room temperature water in a bowl which should encourage him to drink more.
Did the vets give him any more Sub-cuts?

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
Cant they keep him in?
Dougal was in on IV fluids in his ear for 5 days. After that I got him to drink by giving him bowls of warm water with raspberry and apple juice in it.
I fed him porridge too, big bowls with dried basil in. He loved it! I made the porridge really wet and runny though, so he almost had to lap it more than eat it.
I hope he gets better. x x

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
The vets have given him fluids and I have been syringing him water while he wasnt drinking. He has had daily fluids by IV and under the skin followed by painkillers, antibiotics and anti-inflammatories.
He was on Science recovery but the vets have said that it is no longer needed as he is eating small amounts by himself. He is now pooping and drinking small amounts again but his poos seem sticky, could that be from the infacol that he was having?
He has just ravaged a green cabbage leaf to
Sorry Sooz what are Sub-Cuts?

Re: Dodge has the all clear:D
Thanks everyone. He's back at the vets on wednesday so I'm hoping he will get the all clear.
Today he has had the same treatment as previous days but theres no more blockages there. Hes on Baytril untill his next vets appointment, I think he's going to pull through and be back to his old self.
