Re: Poorly MJ :(
We always look for reasons. He has eaten his dinner? He is pooping. He is on some drugs to support?
Good enough for me
I would keep him on single observation over night and then back to normal, warren behaviour.
Anyone else with abetted idea or more experience is welcome

Re: Poorly MJ :(
Well my bunnies have never been I'll in such manner. The cats are and Lanci is getting into fights about Tramadol because it doesn't taste nice. Metacam he loves.
Oh dear the last thing you want is a bunny getting stressed whilst you want to help and improve things.
Calming vibes required. And sent.

Re: Poorly MJ :(
He didn't appear to have eaten much overnight, the pellets and fibafirst stick I'd left for him were still there and again the hay looked pretty untouched and he never ate his breakfast when I gave it to him although he did take a bit if parsley. He has poo'd a few times over night - maybe 20- still much smaller and darker than usual. He doesn't appear to have drank anything. I had to give him all 3 meds this morning and it was awful, he fought so much and was clearly very distressed
I am worried that having them separated and giving him the meds is making matters worse, he was eating apparently fine last night when they were together then overnight when they were separated he has hardly eaten again

Re: Poorly MJ :(
I am sorry to hear that MJ is not back to normal yet
Sometimes it is hard to know what to do for the best for bunnies. If MJ is pooping I would be tempted to leave him with Temperance. I have found that when mine will eat more when with their partner. When alone and/or stressed their eating really slows down - as seen whenever they have been hospitalised at the vets and the vet is waiting for them to eat before they are allowed home. It is agreed now with my vet that both Spring and Rosie come home ASAP as neither do well at the vets.
Sending vibes that MJ is much improved when you get home xx

I get fiberplex online hun too as I do not know where sell it but it will be cheaper online anyway. I would probably get the pro c form pets at home and try that.
I am sorry he is still not well and send mega vibes.

Re: Poorly MJ :(
Aw no, it's awful when they fight the meds
Would he eat when he is being held? Humum got away with the Baytril with Roo for a few days by giving her a big bunch of basil and as she nommed that, squirting the drugs in the side of her mouth
Loads and loads of vibes for MJ, I really hope he picks up soon

Re: Poorly MJ :(
MJ ate 99% of the food that was left for him during the day today, he's been poo'ing a bit more as well although they are still much smaller and darker than usual. The vet has agreed that while he is eating and poo'ing and seems to be improving not to give him meds if its stressing him out that much and not to keep them separated overnight. If he starts to deteriorate at all then we have the meds here to give him.
He has been munching happily on hay this evening so hopefully he's firmly on the mend!
Thank you for all your support and advice, much appreciated from MJ and me

Re: Poorly MJ :(
He is not eating again this morning, so i guess its time for more meds
Edit: huge battle again for meds no matter how tight you manage to get a hold of him he doesn't stop struggling
He has eaten a few fresh herbs and 5 or 6 pellets since getting his meds.

Re: Poorly MJ :(
He's had a few more pellets, some wet kale, fresh herbs and about a teaspoon of critical care.
It really is starting to seem like teeth, when he does take something he sniffs it and gently mouths it first and it definitely more keen on eating soft things.

Re: Poorly MJ :(
On the basis that it is it looking like its his teeth and how distressing it is for both him and me trying to give him meds, I am thinking I might only give him the painkiller? he only has to have that once a day, the others he has to get twice a day. He's eating ok atm, not as much as usual but he's taking critical care off a tea spoon, and I'm letting him have as many fresh herbs as he wants, he's also eating some hay.
The vet is open until 7pm so I will phone on Monday and get him booked in for monday evening. I guess it might be an overnight stay for them

I'm with Katie on this I'm afraid.Katieb wrote:This does smell of teeth to me.
Is it a case of he's eating after the meds, because they're masking the pain?

Bless. His heart. You should also speak to the vet about the pain killer . Metacam should really be given twice daily as it only lasts half as long in buns xx

Re: Poorly MJ :(
He was almost normal last night, and was definitely feeling a lot better- binkies and bunny 500's. He also seemed normal this morning however he is still booked into the vet for this evening.
OH and I are away to London at the weekend, plan was for my mum and/or sister to look after them but I've arranged for them to stay at Buddies for the weekend instead.
