c.bolduan wrote:Well done at least you got clarification and an idea of what is happening. Hoe long would it take you to travel the whole distance?
Would your car be able to take a crate, or a hired vehicle of a bigger size? You seem to have time to sort out the logistics and I'm sure somehow it will happen.
It would be a six hour drive, we have a medium sized dog crate we could put them in to make their journey a little more comfortable although I am not sure it actually helps with the stress any.
I have spoken with my vet this morning re getting a referral to the RVC, hopefully hear back from them soon. Also exchanged a few more emails with the RVC vet, he is very helpful. He is expecting a delivery of lenses within a month and all going to plan we should see him in 4-5weeks time.

Re: MJ's eye :(
Six hours is not to bad especially with a crate in the car. Consider that bunnies are hospitalised in smaller crates when at the vet. No it will still be stressful for them but it seems doable. Consider rescue remedy and/or pet calm to help.

Re: MJ's eye :(
Update: I spoke with the vet at the vet school end of last week re the referral and blood/EC test results, turns out my call earlier in the week and the blood tests hadn't reached her. So spoke with her again today. The blood test result isn't completely clear but is looking very similar to the previous test result of 'strongly positive' so they've to get another 28day course of panacur
Looking like it'll be late July before we will be able to get the surgery :/
Thats what I was thinking re being in the car in a crate probably won't be any worse from their perspective than being admitted to the vet for the day. I'll definitely try rescue remedy or pet calm, thanks

Re: MJ's eye :(
Just spoke with the insurance as I've had no response since I submitted the pre-authorisation on the 11th and the form says they'll respond with 3-5 working days. I also emailed them before I submitted the form re the DoB issue and had no response. Girl I spoke to today says they've no record of receiving the pre-auth form even though i sent it direct to the first person I'd spoken with and to the general small animals claim email address :|
Not that it will ultimately make a difference but it would be nice to know.

Re: MJ's eye :(
Vet school called this afternoon, we now have the referral for down south. Will probably try to arrange for 20th July as we have to finish the 2nd EC treatment then allow a few weeks to get the blood tests back.

Re: MJ's eye :(
Had a wee mini vet check up tonight, main reason was because I thought I felt a lump on the side of T's mouth and I was concerned the you know what might be making a re appearance and figured I might as well get MJ weighed at the same time.
So, good news all round. T's mouth is fine *phew* and MJ is maintaining a steady 2kg (still 200g lighter than he was before the cataracts but at least he's maintaining and not losing).
The insurance company called yesterday for details of our primary vet, so hopefully hear their decision soon on whether they're paying out or not.

Re: MJ's eye :(
Just a wee update, we finished the second course of panacur on Tuesday. MJ is doing a bit better, hes still pretty quiet but his appetite has improved and we are getting an occasional binky. Will get a blood test early next week.
Also... the vet advised us when he developed the second cataract to take away the little ikea table in their pen, I didn't because its over the litter try but I did take away the carrier that acted as a step up onto it (the main concern was him getting onto it and not being able to get back down). I also recently got them an Ikea bed... at first I wasn't sure how MJ would feel about it, he was a bit wary getting off it at first but actually he likes it and spends lots of time on it. And apparently its given him a bit of a confidence boost because as of a few days ago we keep finding him on the table (the doughnut was already on the table... I put it there when we got the ikea bed because they never use the doughnut)
I was worried at first that he'd hurt himself jumping down but I've seen him and he does it like a pro. You'd never know he's blind

Re: MJ's eye :(
Oh bless his heart, he is such a brave gorgeous little chap x
If he is using the table then taking it away now might do more harm than good. I think it must be quite important to keep things as familiar as possible for him.
Sending him a squeeze x

Re: MJ's eye :(
Ok so we finally got the blood test results of the last blood test last weds, only to find out that the lab hadn't provided the required results. For EC there are two results one of which is for long term exposure and the other for active infection. We needed to know if the infection was active and that was the result we haven't got. So he went back in for another blood test on sat and the results were sent to a lab recommended by the vet school, results should have been back within 3-5 days. They aren't back, and the lab is now closed for the weekend.
So we travel down today and the consultation is monday and all going well, surgery on tuesday.
