Just when we were losing all hope...
Mr Mo is booked in for a consultation with Rebecca Rowe on Friday 14th August. Rebecca is the vet that does the conscious dentals...
At first I was really adverse to the idea and am still nervous, but feel much better after discussing it with Chloe from Fat Fluffs who had this to say about Rebecca:
"Concious dentals are of course not everyones ideal but when it comes to bunnies needing such regular treatment as Mo and my bun Shayla for example who had to have one side of her jaw done every four weeks they are an absolute God send.
I know three vets who can do the concious dentals and we did have one particular rabbit who hated having them done and Rebecca was the one of
the three who could have her in out and done before she could relly decide how much of a fuss she was going to make. She is practical, honest and competent which is what we, as a rescue, value incredibly."
And then Theo, who also uses her, said this:
"I have a large number of bunnies that have conscious dentals every 4-6 weeks, sometimes there are as many as 12 bunnies needing these dentals, it just depends on how many they have had and what diet they are on, sometimes, not always, but sometimes when a bunny has had 1, 2, 3 or 4 conscious dentals they don't need another one for maybe a year or so, I highly recommend conscious dentals providing they are done by an experienced vet, the vet I have is fantastic and has been doing them for many years, I truse her implicitely, she is amazing with dental bunnies, conscious dentals are quick, the bunny doesn't get stressed, they are over it within a couple of minutes and eating straight away, I have never, ever lost a bunny to a conscious dental but I have lost a few having dentals under GA, I always get mine done conscious unless they have a jaw abcess or something, but thats different."
Added to that, I've just discussed it over the phone with my vet and she says whilst she's never done it or seen it done, she can't see how it will be that much more stressful to Mo than her examining his teeth with a tools or knocking him out for a GA. She is certainly not adverse to the idea and is keen to know how we get on.
So, conscious dentals are looking to be the treatment avenue we are exploring for now. I realise they're not ideal but if it's between this and losing him then at least I have tried.
All my fingers and toes crossed this is the way forward! Again, many thanks for your continued support over these last few days during this incredibly stressful time. You're all amazing

I agree hunny and I am glad you can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. All the turning over of options in your mind must have been very distressing. Please keep us in the loop.

Re: Just when we were losing all hope...
Im glad that this could be a way forward. Im keeping my fingers crossed for you.
I would be inclined though to make sure it is done with the lady recommended and not with your vet (who while I'm sure if fine) who is not experienced with this.
I really am please though that this might be the answer. Keeping fingers, toes, paws and ears crossed!

He's all booked in with Rebecca (the lady recommended) and will continue to see her only if they work well for him
Our other vet is fab for their routine visits and any other health issues, but this lady sounds to really know her stuff when it comes to these and so we will go to her for all things 'teeth related'.
Thank you
