Re: What do we do about Jack?
How is the little darling doing now?
I totally agree - I'm afraid it looks very much to me that even if not in pain, that Jack is in a lot of distress; it must be terrifying for the little love constantly struggling to breathe. Unlike some illnesses I think fighting for breath like that is involuntary rather than demonstrative of a 'will to live'.
Sooz wrote:I think if she was my rabbit I would be giving her 48 hours at most to show some improvement otherwise, and those that know what happened with Caspian will know how hard it is for me to consider this, I would take her to be PTS. Being unable to breath is one of the most frightening sensations you can experience and to be in such a state of fear and pain for a prolonged period of time is just unthinkable.

Re: What do we do about Jack?
I can see your point Alison, breathing is a reflex action after all.
Helen please do not think of it as 'killing' her. It's setting her free.

I wanted to say this too, you are not killing her. You have fought for her so much in the past when she has been poorly but sadly sometimes we can do no more. I know how hard this is, (I have been through similar) and my heart goes out to you and Charlotte. I am sending so many hugs to you both and little Jack.

Sending you all hugs, I can't imagine how hard this is for you all, and I hope Jack has improved today xx
Re: What do we do about Jack?
So do I. I think she is much the same but will wait for Charlotte to update me and for the vet to come again today before we make any decisions.
I really hate this

Re: What do we do about Jack?
This is just the worst situation to be in as she isn't giving up and i feel awful watching her go through this. ARGH. I think my stress levels have gone through the roof.
Re: What do we do about Jack?
Ditto pal. It has drained me.
I'm so sorry to put you through all this Charl but you have been an absolute angel with her. Honestly, I don't know what I'd do without you :luv:

I feel so responsible. Just cos she is in my care. If she was giving up sooz, I would have throught that she wouldn't eat and drink or am I wrong? xxxxxxx
Re: What do we do about Jack?
i hate to say this but i havent been able to read all these blogs yesterday as was busy but if jack is still as bad as she was the other day and only is showing that she is still fighting for breath i have to say under duress it maybe time she was set free to go to bunny heaven as when the percentage rates were told i was under the influence of her getting better but if they are purely survival rates and she may continue in this way for however much longer i would seriously consider pts as she will not have to fight for breath i have to watch my nan fight for her breath alot of the time and that is involuntary and my nan will never recover and it is scary and extremely upsetting if she will always have these breathing problems which i know is scary from seeing my nan i would have to say to be pts and i am not one for giving up on any animal for any reason if i really can help it but if she will continue in that state with only slight improvements and then relapse im sorry to do a 180 but she needs to be set free all my love but i do hope lil jack does get better im feeling for you helen and charlotte if ya need to talk charlotte at all give me a ring

It's like the breathing, she is just doing it because she has too. I imagine breathing through her mouth makes it very dry & her very thirsty....like when we get a blocked nose.

Thanks Becca...
Well we shall see what the vet's opinion is but if he says not good then I have to be prepared to let her go

Re: What do we do about Jack?
i can't bare not being there with her and it rips me apart that I can't hold her as she says goodbye but there you are. i knew that there was a risk of this coming over here i suppose
Re: What do we do about Jack?
This is just awful. Having been here with Daniel a few weeks ago, albeit in different circumstances, the hurt is still raw enough to empathise with you all 100%. If it does come to making that dreadful decision, I just want to mention that when Daniel had to leave us, there was a complete feeling in the room that all the pain & illness was drifting out of his body as he fell asleep. If anything, it wasn't killing him, but releasing him. I genuinely hope so much that Jack can pull through this, she has all the love in the world surrounding her; and so many people rooting for her to get better. Sending hugs sweetheart, Poor little girl XX

Thanks Becki that means a lot.
I think though that this visit will be the last for Jack.
