Poor Mack, he has been through so much, he must feel so sorry for himself.
I hope he soon bounces back. Loads of vibes coming his way xxx

Hi Sooz, I hope Mack is feeling better. Poppy was put on Streptocare injections for 7 days after her surgery and 4-5 drops of Metacam by Frances Harcourt-Brown, then she went on to Baytril that was prescribed by our vet. As you probably know the prognosis for retrobulbar abscesses is not good at all and we've certainly been through some ups and downs with refusing to eat etc, she's been back to the vets a few times and is still healing but she is eating really well now and even munching on hay, her stitches are out, she still has a small hole that fills with pus but the vet has assured me that it's tiny which means it is healing well from the inside and will fully heal in the next 4 weeks. (As I've been typing this she's just happy flopped- I think that sums up how she's feeling now). Wishing all the best for you both and sending healing vibes to the little soldier.

Re: More vibes needed for Mack. U/D 08/12 vets again.
He is certainly feeling better today as this morning I had to remove him from the window sill and my poor half eaten Chrysanthium at which point he proceeded to run around the room at high speed until I cornered him to clean the hole out.
He adores the taste of the Ceporex (for anyone who hasn't used it, it smells like orange sherbert) so he drinks it from the syringe, much easier than wrestling Baytril down him. Sadly the hole scabs up in a matter of hours and this closes in more bacteria so I am having to pick the scab away twice a day and clean it out. It has to heal from the inside out not the outside in.
Does anyone know where I can get some thin cotton buds from? The ones I have seem to thick.

Oh I didn't know you could get oral Ceporex I wonder if we could move Kobe onto that, he's like a pin cushion now
Great news that Mack's feeling better, these buns are such a worry
PS you can also put Bach Crab Apple in his drinking water, it helps to clear infection and has no contraindications

Oh excellent, theys sell Bach's flower remedies in the boots by the vets... I have a couple already but not Crab Apple.
The oral Ceporex comes in a bottle containing orange granuals, you have to reconstitute it with 6mls of water and then shake the bottle before every use to prevent it seperating.
It needs to be stored in the fridge and used 10 days after opening. It cost me £17 from the vets but I have found it online for £12 if you get a prescription.

I'm sure Boots do cotton buds that are double ended - one end is like a normal bud and the other is a slim pointy bud.

I'll have a look for thise pointy buds in Boots then, they sound perfect.
He had a check-up yesterday and Rob did a thorough flush & clean for me, it's healing as well as can be expected and despite being slightly pussy it's very liquid, whereas rabbit pus is normally thick....so thats a good sign.
He has to go back in a week for another check-up and to get some more Ceporex. I felt sorry for Rob yesterday, the appointment before us he was cleanng out a guinea pig abcess!

Re: More vibes needed for Mack. U/D 08/12 vets again.
I had Mack back to the vets today after discovering what appeared to be another lump behind the one we had lanced 13 days ago. It's mixed news.
The plus side is that Mack dosn't need another operation yet but this is because of the proximity to his last two GA's and another problem.
At the beginning of November he was a chunky monkey and weighed in at 2.4kg . When his abcess was lanced 13 days ago he weighed 2.1kg....I wasn't overly concerned because he did need to lose some weight.
Today he weighs 1.8kg....he's lost .3kg in just under a fortnight and 0.6kg in a month. This IS his ideal weight but when I havn't been dieting him it's very worrying.
On the abcess front, we really are not sure what's going on but his jaw isn't right we all agree there is some kind of secondary swelling to the area (we had a 4th year vet student in who took a look too). I have Depocillin on order to arrive tomorrow hopefully and we will see what happens after a short course of that.
Lexies also has a bottle of oxytetracycline on order too, as her snuffles have flared badly.
My poor duo are going to be like pin cushions!

How is the lovely Mack doing now and how's Lexie getting on with the oxytet - does it seem to be making a difference?

Re: More vibes needed for Mack. U/D 08/12 vets again.
They both had injection number two yesterday, as yet I havn't noticed a change in either of them....they are back at the vets Monday evening for a check-up and to collect some more medication if they are doing OK with it.
When should I expect to notice some improvement with Lexie?
I'm not very confident that the Depo alone will help Mack until he can under go more surgery.

Re: More vibes needed for Mack. U/D 08/12 vets again.
Oh no, poor Mack
I'd have thought you would start noticing a difference within the next couple of days if there's going to be - certainly with Eddie it took 2 doses of oxytet before I started to see any real difference to his eyes. Snuffles is such a tricky one though because of the way it forms pocketed abscesses, so it might take longer for the antibiotic to get right to the heart of the problem. I would have thought you would at least start to notice a slight improvement by Monday.
