Peanut Butter has a problem Empty Peanut Butter has a problem

Post by SarahJane Tue Jan 27, 2009 10:21 am

At his checkup today the vet said his hock is actually healing really well...

but he has fluid build up inside the hock. She said shes stumped on what to do, because his hock has cleared up nicely, but she said generally once you get fluid inside a hock you cant really get rid of it.

She said her main worry now is that its going to get very painful for him, she said she wouldnt even suggested amputating the leg because then he will probably still get fluid.

she wants to refer him to a specialist in wickford, but hes going back friday and she will decide then.

She said she had seen caes much worse, so my mum was like 'phew' but then she said all those had resulted in PTS because of the level of pain and discomfort. she said its not that bad now, but because of where it is its so hard to clear it so it may just get worse.

i cant believe it. i spotted it so early, this isnt fair

i am sorry to hear this. poor thing. Foxy had to be referred to a specialist who is 1.5 hours away from me for her teeth and it has made a lot of difference - its cost loads and timewise is a nightmare as i have to go about every 6 weeks/2 months but is defo worth it when you consider other options incl. being pts. sending vibes.

It hurts so much when stuff like this happens, this is the soul reason that Im not having any more - they break your heart. Think positive chick, I know its really difficult but I truly believe that miracles can happen. Remember how near to loosing Rhia we were in the summer, I didnt think for a second that she'd be here today - and she is, absolutely full to bursting with life! Maybe its just my answer to not accepting that bad things can & will happen, but i hope it helps you somewhat. Sending the hugest cuddliest vibes to your little man, Get better Peanut XXX

I have really limited experience with sore hocks and it's never been particularly dramatic cases like this either, but where in his leg has the fluid actually built up and is it around the bone (or joint) or is it in the muscle & skin...

Also, if your vet can fax details to FHB in Harrogate she may be able to givbe you some suggestions via the phone without you having to refer to her for an appointment, she has done this for me a few times.

Have you read these links at all SJ: Pododermatitis

it is so furstrating when it is something like a leg. don't give up though - there will be a rabbit specialist out there who knows about sore hocks - if you need the details of my specialist (he gives talks on rabbits and is very knowledgeable - been recommended on various threads of this and other rabbit forums) pm me. even if he just talks to you on the phone and says yes there is something l could do with that or the specialist you need is so and so in london or whatever etc etc.

So sorry that Peanut isn't getting any better. I hope that Sooz's specialist and the one the vet recommended can help. Sending lots of healing vibes.
