Mrs Wildie is back.
For the third year running we have a wildie bun digging out a nesting burrow in the back garden. This year it is right under our kitchen window. I cannnot understand why she has chosen our garden, we back on to a treed area, then fields and the moors.
In both previous years we have seen the babies when they have emerged from the nest. Do bunnies really have a homing instinct when it comes to nest building I wonder. I wasted a lot of time on Thursday morning watching her at work Although they are lovely to see I do get jittery about myxi and wish the wildies would stay away

Maybe it smells rabbity and she feels safe. She must feel incredibly safe if she is willing to have her babies there.

I'd pop a note through her door saying you don't mind her staying but could she be careful not to bring any myxi.... or even better, tell her to hop down to the vets for a jab.

shouldnt it be fine as long as your rabbits are up to date on vacs? I would adore being able to lend her some shelter! What a blessing.

All our buns are on 6 month jabs but I do panic over the myxi as a few years ago all the wild rabbits round here died with from it. They are obviously increasing in numbers again as we have had several in the garden. They are a joy to watch tho and as Mum's latest burrow is only 3ft away from the conservatory I will try to get some pics. The first year we had six babies come out of the nest. Not being bunny savvy then I had no idea Mum was only feeding them once a day, and could not understand why she was going down into the burrow for 5-10 minutes then coming out and then carefully filling the entrance back in. It was fascinating to see.

Re: Mrs Wildie is back.
They are amazing arent they. I understand you are worried about your bunnies but the way nature is, as long as you vaccinate there isnt a great deal more you can do. Flies & insects carry it so far dont they?
Your Herbie has amazing colouring!! Could I see more pics of your lot sometime? And the wildie of course! I think its lovely she wouldnt nest somewhere she felt threatened so you clearly have good bunny vibes around your home.

Re: Mrs Wildie is back.
The only thing other than keeping vax up to date that I can suggest is to keep them flea treated and maybe use Rearguard to repel insect vectors.
