Wild Baby U/D Pics p.3 & 6 Empty Wild Baby U/D Pics p.3

Post by Catsknickers Sat Apr 11, 2009 8:50 pm

My brother has just phoned to say that his cat has just brought in a baby bunny. There are no puncture wounds on it. But it is very young. He is bringing it over and I have set up camp. However after working at the wildlife hospital and knowing bunnies as I do, I doubt very much this baby will survive. However vibes please. x

Well its here. It is quite a big bunny. Its got no wounds that I can see but I didn't want to fiddle with it too much. Its in shock so I have popped it in a carrier covered in hay and on a heat pad. I am worried the shock might get to it. Hopefully we will be ok. Vibes for this little guy please people. His eyes look a bit glazed over so I am concerned.

The year before last my terrier caught a baby wildie, it was very young, not even got its eyes or ears open. I took it home and gave it bread milk and lots of hay and grass and it survived! We kept it until 6months until it was a strong girl, we didnt want to tame her so at 6months we let her go in a nature reserve and she was on her way.
Best of luck with the little guy/girl, Im sure with your care and love it will be okay =]

You did well to get the wee bun to survive! Well done you. I just think this little one is in so much shock that he/she might not survive. I daren't even open the carrier as I don't want to stress it too much.

would it be wise to offer it something really strong smelling that might snap it out of shock, something to eat that would have a more intruiging smell than hay?

I don't think it will eat it. I think it is just too shocked. Will just go and check on it now.

oh gosh I will definitely keep my fingers crossed. being asleep is a great sign, if it was too terrified and in shock it surely wouldnt? And then be able to be woken up?

Baby has moved from its original position. I have popped it up into my bedroom, where I have walk in cupboard, so it can be dark and quiet over night! I have a drunken teenager out on the raz tonight, so don't need him coming home and scaring the wee mite! Laughing I have popped some grass in with it. Hopefully it will still be with us in the morning. Will let you all know. x

Post by racheld69 Sun Apr 12, 2009 7:42 am

how's it doing? i just made sure mine had a bowl of water and some dandelion leaves and veg/fruit and biscuits. just anything at all they might have fancied eating. Nettle had been caught by a cat and then in a Nettle patch for 24 hours and not eaten or drunk and Wobbles had been hit by a car with a big water balloon on his head so not great starts. When Foxy arrived she was covered with scabs from crows and was still on cimicat and had her deformed jaw. So what i am saying is that although things can look bad they are tough. esp. with Wobbles - i only put him in a basket thinking well he will prob die but at least he is in a dark and quiet place coz he couldn't even sit/stand and i thought it was better than at the side of the road. the next minute is he is propping himself up and stuffing his face! so yes, my advice is blanket/towel, snugglesafe or hot water bottle, small bowl of water, dandelions, veg, fruit, rabbit biscuits and put someone that is quiet and warm which sounds like what you are doing anyway and keep refreshing food/water/clean bedding etc. That worked with all mine and they all had different circumstances but all pulled through. how is the bunny this morning?
