Bedtime Routine
What is everyone's bunny bedtime routine.
My buns are loose during the day in their compound and then get locked up in their hutch overnight. The routine goes like this:
I go out when it is getting dusk with a tupperware bowl filled with veg. I give it a shake and call them. They both come bombing down to meet me and have a sniff at said bowl. They even try to steal a bit and run away, but I am too fast for them. I noisily throw the food into the hutch and Gloria gets in and starts to try to eat it. Wolfie stands in front of the open hutch door and pretends that the grass in front that he has ignored all day is suddenly really tasty and starts to eat it. I know if I make any kind of grab for him he will be out of my hands faster than a wet bar of soap and under the hutch. After that he will bolt down the burrow, that I then remember I have forgotten to close off. I then squat down beside him and wait him out. He hears Gloria noisily eating ALL the greens and starts to sweat. He goes and looks longingly through the wire at the veg - and Gloria eating it. He tries to eat the cabbage from the other side of the wire, but can't. He goes to the door, looks at it for ages, then eats more grass, but I know he REALLY wants greens and especially doesn't want Gloria to reach the carrot before him. He then gets in and I close the door. A small nightly victory but it takes 10 mins each night!!
By this time Gloria has eaten ALL the greens and most of the carrot.
PS when I was away in Ireland, this routine was shortened considerably by OH giving him a cup of pellets each night. (This is substantially more than they get in the morning!) No wonder he was happy to go to bed.

Re: Bedtime Routine
Gloria's a sensible girl That's quite a routine!
Our is simpler! Bertie either decides to go to bed himself, and will just hope off down to his room, or we have a little game of 'Runaround' which involves me or Paul whafting a red cushion (removes the blame from us) behind him. He decides how long for, sepending on how much exercise he needs, then he hops off down the corridor! We usually sit in with him for a few minutes and play with his sticks or similar, then go to bed. We can still hear him playing down the corridor though

Re: Bedtime Routine
Mine are normally all in their hutches voluntarily at bed time. So they get their supper and veg, then their doors closed up for the night. Indoor buns just get topped up and a kiss. x
Re: Bedtime Routine
Connie and Briony are usually really good.they have a mad hour running around and as soon as i have filled their water bottle up they usually know its time to go in/or that i've got their treat nose rubs and then they are locked up.
now that i said it probably take ages to get them in tonight

Re: Bedtime Routine
Tonight I managed to quickly grab him and chuck him in. But I won't be able to do that tomorrow!! It is uncanny how interesting the grass in front of the hutch is at bedtime. He never looks at it any other time of the day. Ratbag.

Re: Bedtime Routine
I chuck some pellets in, whistle for Oscar to come he will walk right up towards his enclosure, but refuses to go in! I think he thinks they might telepathically go into his mouth if he looks long enough at them!
So I wait for him to go in his own sweet time, but then i get tired of waiting so I pick him up and put him in! Then he tries to escape, so its using my foot to keep him inside!

Re: Bedtime Routine
Yep, we have the same reaction. It is amazing how perceptive the little ******* are! Gloria just bombs in and frantically eats everything. I think she knows that Wolfie is going to fart around for ages so she reckons that if she's quick she can get all the greens!

Re: Bedtime Routine
I normally shut Bun in when we go to bed that is of course if he's in his hutch - if not I let him hop about in his run and have free access overnight - he only thumps all night if we don't. We occasionally try to wait til he comes up for his tea then quickly shut him in but sometimes he sticks his nose or foot in the way knowing I won't close him in just in case I trap a bit of him, then bombs back down his ladder and hops around in the dark like a maniac.
He won't come out the far end of his run for anything if he's not ready - even his fave treat - choc drops won't do it, he'll lean as far forward as he can without moving his back feet, sometimes a little too far and his little back fet scrabble about manically - but he's too bright for me and ultimately always knows it's a trap!
