First vet visit for Shadow!
Hi
After reading some of your posts on the forum (wow you lot are great!! ) I realised Shadow needed his vacc's sooner rather than later so booked into the vet this afternoon. I'm sure he's going to hate me after but hope he doesn't punish me too long as I've totally fallen in love with him already!
Wish us luck (hoping my 2 year old is going to be co- operative too) will he be ok after the vacc or will he have any side effects? Just worried as I have to go out visiting family tonight so he'll be home alone for a while!
Thank you
Emma x

Re: First vet visit for Shadow!
He should have his Myxomatosis vaccine first from which there are usually no side-effects with the except that he may be a little subdued. Make sure the vet gives 90% subcutaneously and the remaning 10% intradermally either into the base of his ear or between layers in the scruff of his neck....this 10% is very important in making the vaccine effective. Myxi has to be given every 6 months now.
Two weeks later he should have his VHD, this will either be Cylap or Lapinject, check which as Lapinject has far fewer side effects. Cylap can cause what is known as the 'VHD limp' where the rabbit will appear to have an injured leg for a couple of days and sometimes it can lead to a localised skin reaction that looks like a burn. If either of the above happens ensure your vet reports it to the manufacturers, who will usually pick up the tab for any additional treatment required.

Re: First vet visit for Shadow!
Morning!
Yeah everything went well for my little fella, he had a little health check and all was fine. He weighs 1.27kg
He had his myxomatosis injection, which he obviously didn't like and liked the bit in the base of his ear even less, he got plenty of kisses and cuddles when we got home though!
Got 4 weeks free insurance too, hope won't need it though!
Thank you for asking!

Re: First vet visit for Shadow!
I don't think my vet did the bit in the base of the ear thing.... I don't remember her doing it anyway but I was trying to reassure him at the time.
Glad he's happy & vacc'd!
