help with Noisette please!
hello everybody. i apologise for not being on here in a while.
as some of you may know, im Janak's sister. well... Janak is in Romania at the moment and im in a spot of bother...
i noticed yesterday that Noisette was limping. i got very worried and i checked her all over yet there seemed nothing wrong with her. i also noticed that she had stopped eating, only going for a little nibble of the fresh fruit and veg i give her and only eating a small amount of pellets i gave her when she normally eats it all by the time i go in to feed her in the morning.
i looked in her litter tray yesterday and her poos were very small, dark and compressed, yet when i looked in today it looked like diarrhoea.
i am thinking that maybe the reason that she is not eating is because of the injury that is causing the limping, but im still not sure...
i have given her 2ml of Infacol and 0.8ml of Metacam to try and help soothe her a bit.
i just hope that she hasn't gone into status!
please help!
i will be posting some pictures soon!

Re: help with Noisette please!
Oh Deepa, bless you, you must be worried sick. It does sound like it could be the beginning of stasis. Which leg has the pain? Does there look to be an injury there?
Re: help with Noisette please!
It's her right, back leg. i looked all around it, and underneath and the fur underneath seems to be matted and discoloured, but the other leg is not.
im not sure if she's broke a bone either, because after i put her down from picking her up, her leg look deformed and in a weird shape.
she has started to eat a bit more now, she ate a cracker i gave her, some corriander and a bit of banana.
i'm still very worried though! i want to take her to the vets but i can't tomorrow as we have a wedding to go to. my dad promised me he will take Noisette to the vets first thing Monday morning.
poor baby.

Re: help with Noisette please!
The metacam should kick in soon. We need to ensure she isn't in pain and she is eating. I would say she needs to see a vet asap if it is broken.

Re: help with Noisette please!
Hi Deepa, what a worry for you
I hope she is improving today but she really must see a vet ASAP, If she has broken a leg leaving it will make the injury worse and she will be in a tremendous amount of pain.
Vibes coming your way for a quick recovery for her. keep us posted x

good news, she's been eating everything ive been giving to her including all the fruit and veg and pellets!
shes still limping though but i am going to take her to the vets asap today. my dad gets home from work at 2:30 so we will be going then.
she seems quite happy aside from the fact that she can't walk!
i just hope she's okay...

Re: help with Noisette please!
That's absolutely ridiculous! Complain to the manager and say that they could have turned away an extremely sick animal...
I hope Noisette's leg is feeling a lot better.
Jan will be very proud of you for looking after Noisette so well

Re: help with Noisette please!
That is awful. What is more important to them, the smooth running of the practice or looking after an animal in possible pain and distress. I would definitely complain. I would have sat there until they let me see a vet and made such a fuss that they would have no patients left until they did!

do you really think i should complain? i don't know if i would have the guts to kick up a fuss!
if i did sit there going i think my dad would have dragged me out haha!
i still feel bad for Noisette though. i gave her some more Metacam today, although im running out. can you only get it prescribed from the vets?
oh, by the way, Janak's missed his plane!
everyone laugh at him when he gats back!

Re: help with Noisette please!
Sorry to state the obvious and probably be unpopular..(but hey whats new! )
but this rabbit needs to see a vet NOW
if she does have a broken leg she will be in such pain and the injury will only be getting worse..by leaving it you could end up with a put to sleep situation
I know you are doing your best and you are not used to dealing with vets..and I think the vets were disgusting to refuse to see the animal...but it is your responsibility to get this rabbit tended to..it really must get proper medical attention as soon as possible.
Hope you can find another vet that can see her tonight..vibes for the poor bun xx

Re: help with Noisette please!
Deepak, you really have to take her to the vet. I think you should ask your dad to ring up and complain that you had taken her in to be seen because you think she has a serious injury, but you were sent away because you had no appointment. He needs to explain that you are only 13 (sorry I don't know your age) and that you hadn't been able to deal with this situation.
He needs to insist that the rabbit is seen NOW and that they waive the usual emergency fee due to it being their fault that she was not seen in surgery hours. I am sure they will see the sense in this. At the end of the day, if she has a broken leg she will be in severe pain. Broken limbs are very painful and rabbits react to stress by huddling up, stopping eating and dying. Please don't let Janak come back to a situation like this. You need to get your dad to help you.
BTW you have done a wonderful job so far and I don't want to criticise you in any way. But now you have to go that little bit further to help Noisette.

Re: help with Noisette please!
right, i have just rang the 24 hour vet, Vets Now, and told them all the symptoms of Noisette's injury, and they didn't even tell me what could be wrong with her.
they asked to speak to my dad, and told him it would be £102 just to see them and it would cost extra for the medicine. my dad said that it was too much to pay and that we have to wait until our appointment tomorrow.
im so gutted, and sooo angry with the vets! im positively FUMING with them!
im so sorry for Noisette that i couldn't do more.

Re: help with Noisette please!
I am so sorry hun. She does need to see the vet. Have you got her an appt for tomorrow?
Re: help with Noisette please!
OK Deepak, let's look at this logically. She is eating and that is a really good thing. As long as you can keep any pain she might be in under control until tomorrow, it will probably be OK. Let's just keep fingers crossed for this one.
However, once this is over, I think that Janek (as the owner) will need to go along and have a stern word with the vets as their treatment of you has been appalling. You might like to consider complaining to the governing body of veterinary surgeons.

Re: help with Noisette please!
It's likely the eating problems will be becuase of the pain. I can't believe those vets....astounding
Please let us know how she's doing after she's seen the vet Deepa, and lots of vibes for Noisette.

Re: help with Noisette please!
i got up extra early today to ring the vets and complain!
i rang them and told them what happened, that they turned away a sick animal and the woman goes 'really, i was here all day yesterday and i don't remember a rabbit coming in!'
i told them what i thought and they gave me an earlier appointment for 9:20am instead of 4:00pm.
i got seen to straight away when i got there.
the vet was a trainee but she seemed okay.
she said that Noisette may have an abcess or just weak tissue lining.
so she hasn't got a broken leg!
Noisette was injected some Metacam and some Baytril and we have another check up tomorrow.
Noisette was being awfully cheeky! at home, she was limping around, and when we got to the vets she was hopping around normally and even standing on her two hind legs!
Thank you for your support everyone, you have all helped a lot.

Re: help with Noisette please!
am back guys... missed my flight in Milan though, so had to take the next one to Gatwick instead of Luton, so i'm at my aunts right now.
Why did this have to happen when I was away? I am worried sick about her, and really not pleased at all with the response from that vet. an abcess and weak muscle are VERY different things, and she's treating it widely... she gave her a shot of metacam and baytril!!
don't you worry, a letter will be sent through to Hugh Duffin, the guy in charge. I am sick to death of that branch, and thats why if I was here she wouldn't have gone there!!!
I miss her sooooo much, and can't wait to go home and see her. I will check her out when I am home. I really do hope its not an abcess.
ETA - will update you with everything when I am back at home!

Re: help with Noisette please!
Hi Janek
So pleased to hear from you. I hope that you give Deepak a great big hug because what she did wasn't easy for a wee girl of 14 and she was really worried about Noisette on your behalf. She is a wee star and did her very best. It must have been hard for her to deal with this problem without a lot of adult support and she challenged the adults at the surgery by herself.
I am so glad that it isn't a broken leg and hopefully it will not be anything very serious and Noisette will be back to her gorgeous self soon.
I hope you have still managed to enjoy your trip to Romania without too much worries. That's what buns do, they pick their times!
