it was too good to be true...
Peanuts hock abcess is gone, it looks so perfect now im shocked. theres not even any redness its completly taken all the pressure off, but on monday he caught his claw in the run mesh and half broke off. there was some blood on the run but it had stopped bleeding when i saw it. gave it a clean and left it at that. Jelly has broken 3 claws before, and theres never been any issues.
Today i noticed he was limping, so i looked at his hock all panicked, by it was fine. i was really confused and then i thought id check his claw. The poor thing has what looks like another abcess. its around the claw, about the thickness of a mint imperial all around his claw.
its swollen, red and full of puss. i burst into tears as soon as i saw it.
its just not fair

Re: it was too good to be true...
okay guys i need some advice now.
the samr thing has happened to the other foot, and there has been nothing to catch it on. blood everywhere, and PB very stressed. we nowbelieve he has actually done this himself.
why would he do this, i mean i know he could if he was stressed or, in pain but he just got the all clear?!
i cant cope with this, i thought he was finally a happy healthy boy again

I'm so sorry that you have to go through this Sarah. It is just not fair. I think you need to get him down to the vets tomorrow. Maybe he has felt that the claw was infected and pulled at it because it hurt. Hopefully it won't be as hard to clear up as his hock was. I am so pleased that has cleared up. Could it be something in the shed that is affecting his feet? New surface or maybe the wood is a bit rough on his pads.

Re: it was too good to be true...
thats what mum thought but tbh i dont think thats it, because he is always stretched out on the rubber floor, and if he doesnt like a surface he wont sit on it.
thats what im thinking, maybe they hurt, but both feet? and i would have thought all the investigating and poking and prodding into his feet the vet would have spied something.
ill take him down tomorrow evening, i hope they dont think im crazy and think he caught himself on something

Re: it was too good to be true...
I think both feet is a bit suspicious. Abscesses come up really quickly so the vet may not have noticed it and she would have been concentrating on his hocks rather than his toes.
I think all you can do is try to clean up as well as possible and see what the vet says tomorrow. If the pressure has been relieved, PB might feel a bit better. It is just a case of getting any infection cleared up and having it heal up. Fingers crossed. Gosh he has been a worry for you.

Re: it was too good to be true...
okay.... there is no harvest mites or anything else that would make him do this. it is either, a weird thing he did for no reason, spooked, angry etc, but thats unlikely considering his previous and the fact hes done on seperate days.
on a closer look only one os his claws hadnt been chewed. she said his actual wound and surgery had been done brilliantly. but unfortnatly that doesnt mean something sinister is going on inside.
She is concerned about the sceptic claw and if that doesnt heal it will abcess and GA's n etc etc and we wont do that.
He is going to see South Beech again on wednesday. If she determines peanut is in pain due to his hock, he will be put to sleep.
im very worried. the vet said unfortnatly considering his previous its a bit hopeful to assume its unrelated.

Re: it was too good to be true...
i dont know, hes on metacam so hes okay again, but then we had a 10 minute struggle of biting and stressing to get him to have the metacam and septrin so he his under his chair until lunchtime.
so, hes either happy and feels safe, but in pain. or in no pain but misrable.
