No more syringing metacam
The wabbits make me sooo confused!.
Since we've been giving Berts Metacam, twice a day, it's been syringed, he hated it, really. I had a lot of anxiety about it. When we first started this, I tried a few methods that some of you reccommended, including putting it on his veges, but he wouldn't touch it in any form, so I resigned myself to the stress of syringing, and got worried that he was treating me as something to be afraid of, which he was, for some of the day.
Couple of weeks ago, he was really resisting the Metacam and spat it out So I gave him some space, then he licked it off the carpet So I tried putting it on his veg again and hey presto, laps it up So we've changed the way he eats a bit - at eating times, he gets a small amount of veg with Metatcam dripped over it. Once he's eaten that, we give hime the rest of his food, and so far, he's not had any problems due to not getting enough Metacam - I'm so happy about it, we've become friends again
He's so smart, I can't believe how much he shows us sometimes!

Re: No more syringing metacam
They are funny creatures. Most of the time they actually like the taste of Metacam once they have convinced themselves it isn't harmful but because they associate it with restraint and force they try to resist it when syringe fed. That said, I have had some bunnies who will lap it from the syringe no problem!
I'm pleased you've found a stress free solution for you all now.

Glad you have found a solution Jay
All our buns enjoy raisins and I have found a drop of metacam on a raisin is soon wolfed down, even by Mr Herbie who is notoriously hard to dose
