perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
Following Bertie's dietary changes recently, i.e. reduction in pellets to 6 a day, no treats or museli, use of rehydrated readigrass, smaller amounts of more varied veg and a mix of 3 hays, his poos for the last few days have been astonishingly green/golden, big and well, beautiful
TBH, I've never seen them like this apart from after stasis when he's just on hay and some recovery food. Am I right in thinking that this is a good thing?

Yep they are very nice poos Jay!
Quite large, well formed, should crumble easily with only a hay-type aroma and golden in colour..= good bunny poos
So tell Bertie well done!

Will have to investigate George's poos a bit more closely. I've noticed they are beautifully round - wonder how they get them that perfect shape - probably best not to know really.
I am just chuffed when they appear in his tray I haven't really thought to investigate if they are healthy poos or checked them to see if they crumble easily.

Re: perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
Ok Jill, you can start laughing now...you've got me to smell his poos mmmm, grassy and hay-ish they are. Thank-you
I can't tell him well done, cos then he'll just poo all over the place to show off
Poos are our window to the state of their digestion. Small and hard ones can indicate a gut slowing down, and/or dehydrated, with the potential to lead to a stasis. Bertie's are usually alot darker than those above, but that's cos I have tended to feed him too much veg

Sadly I am to be found sniffing bunny poo quite oftenJay wrote:Ok Jill, you can start laughing now...you've got me to smell his poos mmmm, grassy and hay-ish they are. Thank-you

I also sniff the rabbits themselves as another good way to tell if something is brewing..from both ends

Re: perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
I'm not a sniffer but I am a crumbler , the golden ones don't even look like poop ince you break them open. Scout has the best poops in this house as she eats an impressive amount of hay each day. If she lived alone I wouldn't give her pellets at all.

Well done Bertie
Gabriel is a love and crumbles his poos for me
I don't find anything remotely offensive about rabbit poos and am quite happy to tidy them up by hand if needs be I am still staggered by how many such tiny animals will produce I have watched Gabriel crumble 30 or so in one sitting
I guess that makes me a bona fide member of the "Rabbit Poo Obsessive Club" too

Re: perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
Im also a member of that club.....I check poos at least 3 times a day. I use it to monitor if he has eaten enough hay the monkey.
Today wasnt so good so ive just spent the last half hour trying to tempt him.......
Not done any poo sniffing tho.......some other reason for my OH to think im a Daisy obsessed neurotic madwoman........which of course i am.

Re: perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
I weighed him last night and he's lost .2 of a Kg, and is now 2kg .From looking at breed specs, mini rexes should be 1.8-2 so I'm well chuffed

Well done Bertie
BJ is the tubster out of our six, although he does truly have bigger bones than the other five and has always been the heaviest. He feels really solid compared to the others despite all being the same size.

Re: perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
Congrats Bertie (and Jay)!
This is so much more pleasant than the pictures that parents take of their newborn's first poop.... *shudder
I've noticed Brynn's droppings have become much healthier since Hippo has been around. He eats SOOOOOO much hay it clearly inspires her to add a little more to her diet too!
The good thing about having one BIG bunny and one little one is you can clearly tell who's poops are whos! hahaha...
... Can you imagine if the "outside world" saw this thread!

Re: perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
I'll try to get some pictures of Loki's post-bloat poo so you can see the difference for comparison. Do remember he is a 5 months old netherland dwarf though so they are naturally pretty tiny.
Re: perfect poos? UD, lost weight too
EllieMay I know what you mean about the difference in size! Gloria's are way bigger than Wolfie's. They have been eating so much hay too that their poops are really golden and this morning some of them had crumbled into bits where they had been stood on in the tray.
