Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
I dont know if anyone else has ever had this problem with their Bunny Nuggs??
Daisy Has Burgess Excel Junior and Dwarf....mainly because he is such a fussy little monkey and ive tried him on a few and will only eat this one.
However, every now and again I buy a new bag and he just wont eat it! Wont even try them. They must smell funny or something to him. I dread starting new bags becasue I dont know if he will eat them or not. This is exactly whats happened again this morning I opened a new bag and I put the bowl down and he is normally pushing my hand out the way to get at them - but today nothing. Im pretty sure hes feeling fine (as yesterdays were gone in seconds) but he just doesnt want these. They are a slightly different colour to the older ones.
Has anyone else had this problem. Do you think that maybe sometimes the bags somehow get contaminated or something? Or do you think that he is just being a little tinker?

Re: Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
About 6 months ago i bought a bag of the same thing that my bunnies always eat, and they refused to touch it too. I spoke to the receptionist at the vet I bought it from and she said that they'd had other people call and apparently very few rabbits were eating their latest shipment. They ordered a new shipment and replaced the bag for free, and contacted the manufacturer (I think... that's what they TOLD me they would do).
It seems like it was just a bad batch - maybe some ingredient was added accidentally? You might want to see if you can get a refund or exchange to a different batch (the batch number is usually near the use by date).
Or maybe he has just changed his tastes and decided it's not special enough for him

Re: Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
Sometimes they also change the recipe without informing people and that can put a lot of rabbits off. I seem to recall there was an episode a couple of years back with SS, when they added a new ingrediant in and they suddenly changed colour and flavour.
Re: Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
I found this happened a lot in the space of a few months every bag seemed different bigger or thinner pellets slightly different colors - I solved it by storing the pellets in a box and buying a new bag after about half way down the box and mixing the new and old well, stopped any problems. Good luck

Got another bag from a different batch and its the same colour and smell as his old bag....however....hes still not the slightest bit interested! See what tomorrow brings.
comparing Bag B with the new bag i can really see and smell the difference....all very odd.

Re: Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
I'm at work and can't remember which brand it was off the top of my head. It was an american imported brand because no one makes pellets that aren't terribly unhealthy in Australia. My vets import them specially.
Strange that he didn't like the different batch? Hmm maybe something else is wrong.

So now im thinking something else is wrong.....he still wouldnt eat any of them this morning so im wondering if his teeth are hurting. Rang Mr Chitty who suggested daisy is seen this weekend.
So if Mr chitty thinks it may be something else then im going to take him up there...

Re: Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
It's safer to get it checked out anyway but is he eating all his other food besides his pellets at the moment. Some rabbits only go off their pellets when they have a dental, but it could also indicate he dislikes something about the food. If, of course, he isn't eating anything, then it's very likely something up with him and not his food.
Re: Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
Bertie did this with Burgess a couple of times before I put him on SS, but it hasn't happened since. I know it's something that does happen from time to time, with peoples buns. Vibes for Daisy, hope it's nothing more serious.
Yeah, when they made it Aniseed and Fenugreek, and changed the shape, Berts wouldn't eat it for a whileSooz wrote:Sometimes they also change the recipe without informing people and that can put a lot of rabbits off. Sending loads of healing vibes to the mischievious Daisy. He is probably just being a fussy bun and wants his slaves to find something more to his liking than boring bunny pellets.

Hes eaten a couple of nuggs from bag no 3 that i have just purchased but he wasnt excited about them like he normally is. Hes a bit grumpy too....so def going to go see Mr Chitty on Sat. Cant be too careful really. There was def something wrong with Bag 1 though. Much lighter in colour and smelled a bit funny.

Re: Fussy Bun or Funny Food?
He's ok actually.
He has had a few nugs from bag no 3 but hes not eating them like he normally would....so i do think its his teeth.
hes okay in himself though and he's not eating as many veggis as normal so im giving him his fave fresh herbs to just keep him strong and keep his belly moving until sat, he just cant resist corriander!
I think he'll be okay just lookin forward to getting him to mr C on sat.
