Just ONE sore hock?!
Bobbin has recently had one sore hock on his right foot. I treated it a little with sudocreme and it was doing well. When he came back from holiday with Theo is was completely healed, no pinkness at all But tonight I noticed it's returning slightly.
He is on a fleecly throw which I lay on the carpet in their room in the pen. I use this because previously they were on carpet tiles that I thought were causing it. It has certainly improved since the change. At Theo's they were bedded on hay, which I assume is why it had a chance to heal. But putting hay down in the room would be a sin and a hoovering nightmare
What I am wondering is why he only has it on one foot? Could it possibly be the result of something else, perhaps skeletol? He could do with a nail trim and I am aware that long nails do not aid sore hocks, but both feet have the same length nails so I am slightly perplexed, any advice or thoughts greatly welcomed

Re: Just ONE sore hock?!
puzzling one. I have no ideas or suggestions I'm afraid but want to wish Bobbin's footlet all the best for a speedy recovery!
Re: Just ONE sore hock?!
I would suspect Bobbin slightly favours one side of his body and therefor puts less weight on that side, sort of like how one of your shoes always wears down faster than the other!

Hi Sooz
So you think it could simply be the way he hops, for example, like the way we walk funny too?!
I do wonder what else I can do to help prevent it though, I really thought the fleecy throw on the floor would be non-abrasive, and I can't cover up the entire carpet in their room Why are our little darlings so tricky?!

Re: Just ONE sore hock?!
I have found a cotton sheet to be better than anything fleecy for sore hock prone Buns. I use old cotton duvet covers for my Rexes.

Oh excellent tip Jane, thank you! I might find an old (or new!) sheet in that case

If you put the fleece inside a cotton duvet cover you'll get a soft but non abrasive surface
