OMG I think daisy has broken his toe UD its dislocated Empty OMG I think daisy has broken his toe UD its dislocated

Post by KatieB Thu Aug 05, 2010 8:58 pm

Well Last night when he was cleaning himself his foot looked a funny shape but I didnt pay much attention as i thought he may have been holding it out while cleaning it. But tonight I can see the last inside toe on his back left foot is twisting out from the others and the nail seems at a sideways angle.

The thing is though which is a bit more worrying is that it doesnt seem to be bothering him. He is on pain meds anyway but he was hopping about this eve perfectly happily. Either he did this at the weekend when I was away and its already set so that its not hurting any more or worse - he's done something to the nerve!

Has anyone heard of this before? Since he doesnt seem to be in any pain I'm going to take him to the vet tomorrow, as I just cant afford the emergency vets fees. Should I be panicing? Can a broken toe lead to other nasties? I dont know if maybe I should contact Mr Chitty first and see what he says before taking him to my vet.

Oh goodness the more I am typing the more panic stricken I am getting!

Oh goodness oh goodness!

Don't panic!, I have got bunnies with toes, feet and legs in some very strange places, I have got one bunny with 7 toes on one foot and 6 on the other and one toe isn't attached to anything, it's really amazing what bunnies can do, can you get a picture of it?

Does it look swollen or red? is he eating, weeing and pooing? is he behaving normally?

Stop panicking, I am sure he will be fine, I would get him to your vet in the morning, if he is doing everything normally and eating and his behaviour is normal then I am sure he will be OK, if he's scratching with that foot then it can't be hurting him

He's probably had a deformed toe since you had him and you've only just noticed Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Seriously though, I am sure he will be OK

Pirate broke his toe a few months ago. he had metacam for pain and check up at vets to see what was going on then had to monitor it to check it wasn't catching/causing probs as then it would need to be amputated.

right - ive just been and picked him up. He is bright as a button in himself, doesnt appear to be in any pain and apart from the obligatory post vet sulking he is fine.

The vet said they cant put it back in as it has already starting to heal - they can do an operation on it but as he doent seemed bothered by it its a lot to put him through.

Apart from feeling like the worlds very worst bunny mummy for not noticing earlier I agree that I dont want to put him through anything more.

I will speak to mr Chitty about it when we next go, but I think my boy is just going to be wonky footed from now on. He was having a proper binky in the garden this morning and was chased for a good ten mins before going back in the house so i think its really not bothering him.

God what these buns put us through!

pirate's toe was out at a 45 degree angle and swollen - it was broken and dislocated but somehow it seems as though the swelling helped it ping back in place and has reset almost straight.

I had been lowering his pain killer but have just given him a bigger dose as I dont want to see him in pain.

Bless him

All toe healing vibes greatfully received.

Hey everyone - he seems to be moving about on his foot fine again today.....he's out raiding matts veggi patch as we speak, but I have increased his pain killer back up as soon as I saw he was limping, and will start reducing it down again from Tuesday Im thinking, give him a good few days for it to start healing again. Im going to keep an eye on him - see how he does.

He seems fine in himself the little monkey chops.
