spaying rabbits
Hi all,
I have just got my girly bun a new little friend (both need to be neutured) but I was wondering what up to what age you can get a female spayed???
It may be a dumb question but before her I have only ever had male rabbits so don't know everything about girls lololol

Re: spaying rabbits
I presume you are asking how old a rabbit can be before it is too dangerous to spay? Rabbits need to be 6 months before being spayed.
I had a rabbit spayed who was 5 and she coped just fine. Of course, it all depends on the individual and some rabbits are more resilient than others. There is a risk with a GA with all animals, no matter what their age.

Re: spaying rabbits
As Nickie says most rabbits can be spayed at 6 months but smaller breeds mature faster than larger ones so some, such as Nethies, can be done sooner, whilst Giants may be left until a little later.
Mostly your vet will have a preference of their own but as a basic guide: average sized rabbit= 6 months.

thanks, shall take her to the vets for a check up and ask them what they think (we have to take them to an animal hospital here to have operations)

Thanks - needing to know what age you shouldn't get them spayed as she is already approx 2 - 3 years old

Re: spaying rabbits
It gets riskier as they get older and vets get dubious after around 5/6 years but 2-3 years is fine.
