Help! Starting to panic!
Hi all,
I picked Tibbler up from being spayed at 4.30pm this afternoon - they said she was doing really well, and had had some grass and leaves. She'd also had painkillers, but they gave me some metacam to take away and said 4 to 6 drops once a day should be enough.
Since I got home, I haven't seen her eat anything, and there are no poops. She will run around if I let her out of the dog crate I'm keeping her in overnight, but sometimes she'll stop and flop down, stretched out. I've given 4 drops of metacam, and offered her all her favourite foods, but so far nothing.
I'm getting really scared, but I'm not sure if it's too soon to start freaking out and calling the emergency vet yet. I've left her in peace for a little while, see if she perks up, but I'm desperate for any advice.

Re: Help! Starting to panic!
I would say it's too early to worry yet, just keep tempting her and make sure she has a bowl of fresh water and all her favourite foods available and then leave her be for a while. Clean her try so you can see if she poops or not and if she hasn't perked up in the morning then call the vet.
Doe's are always slower to recover as a spey is very invasive surgery and it can really knock them for six. I'm sure she will be perkier in the morning.

I agree with Sooz
If she has already eaten at the vets then I would try to settle into her normal routine as much as possible. She may not feel like herself for a few days, but it's only to be expected really. She has pain relief and her favourite foods so you have done everything you can.
Sending eating and pooping vibes.

I would just allow her to rest. She should pass a few poos overnight but if she doesn't then your Vet may want to give her a gut motility stimulant ( Metoclopromide)
Poo vibes on their way !!

Jack took ages to recover from her spey. Every time she has an op I worry as she refuses food for a long time afterwards. Keep tempting her with tasty treats and water and, like sooz said, cleaning the bum can stimulate pooping.
Other than that I'm sure she will tuck in when she's feeling better

Re: Help! Starting to panic!
Thanks guys - she definitely ate some dandelion leaves overnight and I think she nibbled at an apple. She's piddled, and there was one quite large and slightly sticky poop.
She seems a little perkier - she was well enough to fight me off as I tried to give her the metacam and she had a good sniff at Truffles through the bars of her run before flopping out again.
Would water in a bowl be a better idea than her bottle? I haven't seen her drink anything.

Oh yes, defo water in a bowl. She probably cant be bothered to use the sipper bottle.
The fact that she's done some poo is a great sign and hopefully as today goes on she will continue to perk up and eat a bit more.
Imagin how we would feel less than 24 hours after an ovariohysterectomy !!
She probably feels sore and still tired from the GA

that is definitely a fab sign! I would give her the choice of bowl and bottle - best to be safe eh?
