Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
Well I am concerned as have treated my cats for fleas and want to ensure the buns are flea free too, especially Chance who lives in the house. now I don't want to use the flea treatment from the vets (can't remember the name) as I know there was a particular batch that alot of people had problems with. Also it is harmful to cats. Is there a flea powder anyone could recommend? Does grooming and ingestion become an issue with this?

I only ever use the spot-on Ivermectin to flea treat my Buns. Its absorbed through the skin and once its dry ingestion isnt a problem.

I know it wont help if the buns already have fleas but I have found that assisi grooming lotion really helped keep fleas of my buns when we had a cat with fleas hanging around the garden all the time x

Re: Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
Thanks Jane. I am fuming as my cats are continually treated and I know that it must be them bringing them into the house from all the skanky aly cats round here whose owners don't treat them. The fleas obviously can't stay on the cats, cos of the front line, so they are hopping off onto my bunny So now I am off to flea treat all the outdoor buns as you can bet your boots they've got them? Its so annoying when you pride yourself on your animal husbandry and these little *censored* appear.

Re: Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
I use the small animal spot on treatment. Not sure if it is any good but they haven't had any fleas or mites.

I get mine from here and delivery is good, it only takes a few days so probably quicker for deliveries in England

Re: Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
ARGHHHHHHH the little *beep* are back!I have re Spot On Invermectin'd him and they are still there?! Are these some sort of bionic flea! Help! I have RSI from flea coming him. None of my animals get fleas. I feel like a total minger. ALL the cats are up to date with their Front Line. None of the outdoor rabs have them... so why him?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Re: Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
oh no! I'm no help I'm afraid, maybe they didn't all quite die off last time? Fleas make you feel minging don't they? it must make animals so miserable to have them.

Re: Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
Ooh poor you. Fleas in the house are horrid. You may need to deflea the carpets, if the sprays are OK to use with bunnies.
The house I bought back in 2001 was riddled with flea eggs (they had a dog) and 4 months after moving in they all hatched. Fleas were leaping out the carpets everywhere Poor Bobbie was driven mad.
I now have Bobbie on the Program jabs - at least if she picks a flea up the little blighter cannot breed. Touch wood we have had no infestations since using Program.
Sending flea-killing vibes.

Re: Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
Thanks.... yeah Frontline on the cats is great... they are all frontlined. Its from the vets, and costs a bomb but is worth it. The fleas aren't bothering the cats. We don't have carpets and the sofas are leather, so there shouldn't be any problems there. I have sprayed everywhere with a spray frm the vets too. Its just Chance... he is a flea magnet. I feel like a right common slapper though with fleas on him Its not for the want of trying either.
Re: Fleas They Are Back 9/08/08
Ivermectin is useless against cat fleas...you need the rabbit specific Advantage
We had a BIG flea problem when we first moved into our house, and my indoor bun got infested with the little b*ggers. Advantage worked mega quickly...we were combing out dead fleas within a couple of hours.
Also Advantage doesn't seem to have any nasty side-effects, and you only need to treat once a month (it says once a week on the box, but that's too often IMO)
Good luck

Catswhiskas wrote:Oooh Amy that sounds great, where do I get it?
It's prescription only I'm afraid.
Unfortunately it costs about £15 for a pack of 4 vials...costly but worth every penny IMO
