Bunny drinking habits? Empty Bunny drinking habits?

Post by Sue_pawz Tue Oct 11, 2011 12:50 pm

I had a query about how much a bunster should be drinking.

Caspian, one of the new foster buns, seems to be drinking a lot in comparison to the others - he's drinking at least 300ml a day.
Tumnus, by contrast, drinks about 50ml (he is less active than the others since he is not currently leaving the cage).
And Ted and Toffee drink around 150ml each.

They are all roughly the same size - Ted and Toffee are mini lops and Caspian and Tumnus are mini rexes.

Is there anything to worry about in any of this?

Is Caspian more active than the others? Perhaps that could be a reason.

Charlie really doesnt drink much water, he gets plenty from his veg, but I change him daily, and somedays its like he hasnt even touched it.
My friend says in the wild they dont get water so not to worry but inthe wild they get the dew from the damp grass early morning they cant get that in hutches.

If you are concerned about him then its worth checking out with the vet in case he has some kind of infection - that said the amount of drinking does vary from bun to bun.

Mine differ day to day. But they don't drink loads. But then again they get loads of veg in the morning so that helps them along. More water goes from the bowl than the bottle but they do use both.
