Do I need to wash the vet bed before I put it in their bed? It came wrapped in a big bag.
OH thinks I'm OCD about cleanliness So it's maybe not necessary...?
Thanks

Dougal and Florence have a little dog bed, I didn't wash that before I put it in. I just bunged it in the cage. Florence even removed the label for me

You don't have to wash the vet bed before use we don't but when you do wash it wash it on 30 as if not they go really rough and tatty. Washing them on a gentle 30 wash keep's them soft and in good condition

Re: Thumper2001's silly questions thread :) U/D Wednesday - nibbling!!
The babies are currently eating muesli mix I have bought some of that and some Excel junior and dwarf to change them over to.
I know I need to change them over 10% per day, but 10% of how much? I'm not sure how much pellets they should be eating at 8 weeks. The centre probably won't be able to tell me how much they've been eating because all 4 of them are eating out of 1 bowl, so how can they possibly know!
Despite my best efforts, Thumper didn't eat hay. Ok, lie! She tolerated oat hay in the last few weeks she was with us. I really, really want these two to eat as much of it as possible.
I'm scared in case I give them too much pellets so they neglect the hay and I'm scared I don't give them enough pellets and they are hungry
Can anyone please help me?
Thank you

Re: Thumper2001's silly questions thread :) U/D Wednesday - nibbling!!
If I remember correctly, on the Excel package it has the pellet measurement of what they should be having. Florence was on Excel when she was a baby but I changed her over to Science Selective. What I done was each day was measure out the Excel, each day taking off about the 10% and replacing that in weight with the Science Selective. So if you measure out the museli (ask how much they are eating now) and each day add more pellets until they are up to the recommended pellet amount.
That's what I done changing pellet brands, others might have a better suggestion. I'm quite lucky now though as they can both eat excel, wagg or science selective pellets with no problems.

I would just give them the normal egg cupful. The junior and dwarf is a richer pellet to help support growth so there should not be a need to feed extra.

Thanks guys! I don't have an egg cup because I have a serious fear of eggs but I have a scoop that I used for Thumper's feeds that would hold about the same

Re: Thumper2001's silly questions thread :) U/D Wednesday - nibbling!!
It's good to give them half an egg cup in the morning and half in the evening (teatime). That way it spreads the joy out!
Give them loads of different hays and dried forage, so to try and encourage them to graze on this all the time.
When we cut Joey's pellets down a bit as he got older, he ate more hay naturally as he was having a few less nuggies.

Yes I'd give them a normal egg cup full and unlimited hay, then they are getting the best of both worlds and as a little treat scatter a hand full or two of dried herbs on the hay and then they can forage for it

Re: Thumper2001's silly questions thread :) U/D Wednesday - nibbling!!
Thanks guys
I have a question about nibbling.... Thumper wasn't much of a nibbler, with the exception of my carpets and newspaper She had things to nibble but she never really showed any interest.
I've read on here that most of your buns like a good nibble so should I give the babies things to nibble so that they are only nibbling the right things? Or will giving them things to nibble just plant the seed of thought about nibbling

Bets to give them something to nibble in case they turn out to be nibblers and turn on your carpet/their housing ect. Marshall used to love willow balls when he was small .... now he isn't fussed with nibbling

At some point they are bound to feel a bit nervous/annoyed etc. and start to chew so it makes sense to provide some options.
