I think I did a good, sort of Empty I think I did a good, sort of

A guy at my work had a female rabbit, she wasn't spayed, wasn't vaccinated, she got at poo-y bottom and until I told him he had too he wasn't going to take her to the vets (she died at the vets she was like 8 I think)

He was talking about getting some more rabbits, but this time a pair from a rescue, and I was talking to him about vaccinations, I told him how much it cost to get Hector's jabs (£39) and that it was once yearly and he said he wasn't going to do it. So I said to him, surprisingly calmly for me, that if he doesn't want to pay out for vaccines etc then he shouldn't get a rabbit, he should get an animal that doesn't need vaccines, like a guinea pig. I told him they otherwise need the same level of care, that they have to stay dry (e.g urine) and about the vit c thing, and obviously he went home and thought about it over the weekend and now he's getting guinea pigs instead of a rabbit.

Him and his wife do the cleaning out, so I know in spite of what happened to his rabbit (seemingly over night Rolling Eyes I think they didn't handle her much b/c she got grumpy, shocker) they will be clean, and fed, with fresh water everyday, and his kids will give them lots of attention, so I'm hoping it works out.

Any guinea pig tips for me to pass on?

I think you did a good thing. It's not to lesson the needs of piggies but I think it is a better compromise xxx

Thanks kaite, I thought it was better than some poor sad rabbits dying of myxi or worse. The pigs will have a double hutch and a nice run too, so at least they'll get enough space

you did well but suprised he listened some don't care at all Thumbs Up
i hope he takes more care of the piggies because if he would not pay for vaccs then he won't pay for any care for any animal (just my opinion of course)

The advice I would give on pigs is that the need a lot of cleaning out. Every couple of days at least.

I think you did a good thing too! Thumbs Up

I have a pair of piggies as well as Willow and whilst mine are overly spoiled, if I took that out of the equation they are FAR lower maintenance than a bunny. They also make much better children's pets than a bunny as most don't mind being held and cuddled, and aren't as big. I know when I was little (back in the 90's when we ourselves were ignorant bunny owners) Embarassed I wasn't allowed to hold our bunny because his back legs were too powerful and he was a bit grumpy. But then again he did live in a hutch with a guinea pig - who I may add, was much friendlier!

The only tips I have for guinea pigs is obviously make sure they get enough Vit C in their diet but DON'T overfeed carrots, and no iceburg lettuce! Other than that they make a great pet. If not a little dirty like Cheryl has said.
