We have the dog one rob. Daisy has the same syringe - does it have red writing on? Daisy has a 5 kg dose twice a day - so to number 5 on the red syringe. Hope that helps

thanks Katie x
she is doing ok she will eat banana, herbs, a little hay but not hard things like nuggies i'm guessing that the ulcer on her tongue is hurting when she eats harder things and the hay may be causing a little discomfort too but feeding recovery at mo but have ordered critical care fine ground but waiting on it,
she is drinking and thus weeing she also is pooing they are small but not as small as they originaly were and shaped perfectly round and getting better colour so I think she is slowly on the mend.
she is chirpy too Smile

OK, so Blue is on a 4kg cat dose of metacam - that equates to 0.2mg of metacam which on my understanding is not enough if Blue weighs 4kg. 0.2mg is a minimum dose for a 1kg bun every 24 hours. By my reckoning then she should be on at least 4 times as much as what you have been giving her.

Hope this makes sense. I wonder if your vet has not got a full understanding on metacam doseage in rabbits, or has maybe prescribed the dog dose but given the cat version to you scratch

What I do know is that little Noo was very slow to start eating after a dental and that it took a couple of days for me to realise that I was on the lowest dose of metacam and that I could up it. Once I increased the doseage she seemed to immediately improve - it may have been a coincidence but it was (another) lesson learned.

well the odd thing is the vet said when I picked her up that it was a lower dose for her yet when I phoned yesterday and spoke to the same vet she said no she can not increase the dose but to persevere and take her back if she won't take the recovery and they will force feed her so I decided that maybe as I care so much for her was being too soft on her and now I am making sure she can not play on me she is doing better and taking the recovery food Suspect
today I mushed up a little piece of banana in the recovery mix as she loves nana and she took it with a little less struggle she does play on my feeling sorry for her I think x

I don't really want to cast aspersions over your vet Rob but I think she is very wrong about the metacam. Blue is only getting 0.2mg of metacam a day, which is negligible for her weight. If her mouth is still sore she really needs more.

I can't find anything official to back up the doseage guide that I posted earlier but I do have it on good authority that the amounts are correct. It also fits in with the amount that Katie has said John Chitty has prescribed for Daisy. Can I suggest that you print off my post and maybe let your vet have it along with John Chitty's details so your vet can contact him for confirmation.
