vibes for bertie?
Bertie ?clipped by car. Covered in scratches, bruised mouth, a little subdued and moving gingerly. Been given antibiotics and painkillers. Back Monday for x ray to check for internal damage.
Very glad we took him in.
Both the vet and nurse fell for his charms!

Re: vibes for bertie? u/d all better!
Our big lad has just wolfed down his painkillers - not that he noticed they were hidden in his food! He's pretty subdued, we're keeping a close eye on him.
Vet pretty sure x rays will come back clear, it's just a precaution. She felt that, given the x rays probably won't show anything, it's better to give him a couple of days to settle before putting him through the anaesthetic.
His claws are all shredded from trying to grip the road as he's been hit!
Poor guy, all vibes very appreciated x

Thank you all, he's perked up, I think from the painkillers kicking in.
Breaks my heart seeing all the scratches and wondering how scared he must have been

Yes, I'm so glad he came home. I have wondered before how he would react if something like this happened, whether he'd consider this home enough to be a safe place, with him having been a stray and all, so I'm so happy this is his safe place!
Between him and Hannah this has been a very expensive 48 hours, vet wise!

She's OK, she has a problem with her ears. We have drops which seem to be soothing them. Vet can't see anything wrong though. She thinks it might be something with a very long name, which basically translates as 'cat with a random, unexplained itchy face disorder'.

Re: vibes for bertie? u/d all better!
He went bat sh*t crazy late last night desperate to be out - he gets v stressed if he can't go out and he won't pee/poop in the house, so we v reluctantly let him out. We worried he's make himself ill by refusing to go and being so upset. We figured he was showing no signs of head trauma and was eating and drinking well, so he might be better if we kept things as normal as possible.
He's not come back yet, so I've been awake all night worried sick. It's not unusual for him to still be out this time of morning though.

False alarm! Don't know where he was hiding, but he just suddenly appeared and asked for breakfast!

Re: vibes for bertie? u/d all better!
Thanks Holly and Sparky! Although Holly - a sunny spot? Not sure what one of those is, this is North East England. And it's snowing!
I felt bad about letting him out, but we really felt that because of the type of cat he is it was best for him. He really does get so very distressed if he can't get outside.

Re: vibes for bertie? u/d all better!
Bertie is doing great he's getting back to his usual self, although he is very easily startled. The painkillers are excellent - he's almost as normal when they are in his system and you can definitely tell when he needs more.
Off to the vet later for a check up and book him in for x ray if the vet still feels it necessary.
Thanks for the vibes, hoppers! Bertie says that as a thank you he will allow you to stroke him. Briefly.

Re: vibes for bertie? u/d all better!
The vet is very happy with Bertie's progress He's healing well. It's obvious when it's painkiller time as he moves more gingerly, but in every other respect he's pretty normal - eating and drinking well, no breathing issues, probably toileting fine (hard to tell, he goes outside, but everything feels normal in his abdomen). In light of this, the vet doesn't think it's in his best interests to put him through the GA needed for an x-ray right now, and we agree. He's not showing any signs of anything serious.
The plan is to keep him on the painkillers today and tomorrow, then see how he is without them on Wednesday. If he still seems to be in pain without the meds by then, we'll go and get him x-rayed - any bruising should have gone down by then, so continued pain would suggest something more happening. We do believe though that he'll be fine.
