Vibes for Treacle u/d 27.9 now vibes for Annie needed

I discovered yesterday morning that she has ulcerated her eye quite badly. She's seen the vet and has some eye drops, but I don't think this is going to clear as quickly as normal hay pokes. This pic does not really show you haw bad it looks. It is like someone has rubbed opaque sticky back plastics over her eye and left air bubbles in the middle. The only saving grace is that she is already mostly blind due to cataracts so it has not diminished her quality of life.

Well we are just back from the vets and I don't know whether to be happy or guilty.

Treacle's eye is better and she doesn't need any more drops. There is some scarring but no ulcers.

Whilst we were there I asked the vet, who has an interest in piggies, to check out Annie's tumour as it has doubled in size since it was initially diagnosed about 18 months ago. He took a look at it and said that he thinks it isn't a tumour at all but a really large kidney stone as he can feel some grit in the bladder. In my defence she hasn't been squealing when peeing or anything like that which is normally the sign of kidney issues in pigs. So she is going in on Wednesday and the vet is confident that he can remove the stone, and she is going to have her teeth done at the same time.

It has reminded me of the importance of seeing the right vet. When she was initially diagnosed it was by one of the other small animal vets with consultation with our normal rabbit vet. If this does turn out to be a kidney stone and I have left it for such a long time I am going to feel very guilty indeed.

I don't think you can beat yourself up when she has not given you any reason to question a diagnosis that you never had any real reason not to trust in the first place...

Don't feel bad, Cheryl. You sought vet advice when she needed it, it is NOT your fault you were given wrong info.

Fingers crossed they can do something about it.

Sending vibes for Annie Hun. I totally agree with Sparky - you had no reason to question the vet.

I don't think I will really know which vet was right and which was wrong until they do the op on Wednesday. The vet was confident it would only require the smallest cut to remove if it is a stone so I think it is worth the risk on the basis that it may make her more comfortable.
