Little Lexy
What can I say sweetie? You were such a lovely little thing, so pretty, with your white fur, pink eyes and little grey ears.
You came from the pets at home adoption centre - nobody wanted you, apparently because of your colouring. We thought you were just beautiful, and brought you home to your big cage - hamster heaven, complete with penthouse.
You shared the front room with the bunnies, and loved to run around the floor in your ball with them. I think you scared them a little though in your enthusiasm to say hello.
In October/November, we noticed you squeaking, which was odd for you, so we took you to the vet, where you gave both me and the vet quite a scare by going kamikaze hamster off the table! Mercifully, after a few minutes, you were OK. The vet diagnosed you with pyometra, gave antibiotics, but advised that they were unlikely to help much and we probably wouldn't have you around much longer.
We got you home, and vowed to make the most of every minute.
You confounded us all! You were more subdued than you had been, and slept more than before, but you still enjoyed a cuddle, your food, and a run in your wheel or ball. The infection came back intermittently, but a few days of antibiotics saw you right.
This time though it was just one fight too many. On Saturday night we noticed you were poorly. You had some food, then went to sleep. You hung on for a few days, before slipping away yesterday afternoon. It was almost as if you were waiting for our permission to let go - you let us both have a last cuddle and a kiss before you went.
We buried you this afternoon under a Hebe plant.
It will flower white in the summer, which seems so appropriate for you, our little lexy bear. We always called you our little bear as you reminded us of a teeny little polar bear.
We miss you darling. Scurry free at the bridge x
