Chewing walls - any ideas?
Berts has chewed his way into most of our posessions, curtains, books, LP's, shelves, clothes, sofas, bins...I could go on...
But he's never touched the walls before, or the skirting. The last few weeks he's been going for the corners of the walls, the skirtings, door edges etc. He has plenty of wood to chew, I sit with him for 10-15 mins a day holding willow twigs for him to chew, and he has plenty of other chewies which he does use, but he's still a bit fixated on the walls.
The last Xrays showed his teeth to be in excellent nick, and i feel them weekly, so I can't see that it would be that. I really don't understand why it's happened, and the only change in him whilst he's been doing it is that he's been on Metacam, every day.
I can't for the life of me think why this would make him chew walls, and doubt that it is that, but I can't see any other reason why he'd start this at nearly 3 years old.
any pointers appreciated

Brynn tried chewing the corner of one of our walls a few times. I rubbed some lemon juice and black pepper on them... it's not the most attractive, but it cleans off easily with warm water.

Piper chews walls, the little stinker
I've seen some plastic covers you can put on the corners of your walls to protect from kids and things like that but I have no idea where you get them... maybe a hardware store? They look a little tacky but maybe if you left them on for a little while Bertie would get sick of it and quit trying?

Re: Chewing walls - any ideas?
I'm convinced it's the glue and pain and plaster - my buns love to eat the wall paper off then gnaw at the plaster, I honestly think it must taste good. I think it's to do with how it crumbles too, I've tried spayoing yucky stuff on it, but it never works!! lol They also know fully well it makes me cross when they do it but oh well one thing I have found they love just as much are the stones that look like plaster and crumble as they chew. I also think it's the angle and the ease of chewing that makes them attractive... I've basically said goodbye to the lower half of my wall paper

Re: Chewing walls - any ideas?
Thanks for the suggestions, I am going to have to try something more substantial than the bits of cardboard that now adorn the corners And actually, it's stressing Paul out a bit, so i need to find a solution. Bertie's become quite attatched to nearly all the corners in the flat now, and they have all suffered some damage. I know this is kinda expected, but IU'm still baffled as to why it's taken him 2.5 years to think about the corners...
Bonkers bun I'll investigate the plastic thingy's this week-end

We have used the metallic mesh that forms corners when plastering - ( haven't a clue what it is called ) to prevent BJ and Rosie chewing the outside edges of their hutch.
It does work really well However it wouldn't be the most attractive item to decorate your flat with. I guess if you ran it from floor to ceiling everywhere you could describe your flat as having an industrial feel to it!
Seriously though, I believe PAH produce an anti-chewing spray which works with some bunnies.

Apparently something like Vicks vapour rub usually stops them chewing, I think it was Vicks anyway.

Sorry it was Olbas oil....or Eucalyptus oil. Apparantly strong smelling perfume works too though.
