The poor lonely bucks....
I went to P@H today for a few supplies and I always look at their rehoming section. I've noticed a really sad trend. There always seems to be a lone buck with a description that reads 'I was fighting with my brother so I need to be rehomed'.
I find this really sad as Vince was labled with this description too and I was advised to keep him as a lone rabbit. Why oh why aren't people informed by the petstores that it is better to neuter them for their sake health wise and so they can have companionship? Don't they understand the nature of bunnies or is it they only see the £ signs?
The two bucks I saw today will probably spend the rest of their lives alone
My Vince is my most friendly and sociable bunnies I care for, it would have been criminal to leave him to a life of solitary confinement
Rant over......

Re: The poor lonely bucks....
It is an all too common site isn't it. I just wanna scream "get them neutered"!!!!!!! I don't understand why pet shops don't tell owners this.... oh yeah that is it, because they think it will lose them a sale.
Re: The poor lonely bucks....
When I got Luna the woman in P@H told me everything and even said she had bunnys herself and didn't tell me to get her neutered, I only found out because I researched it so much myself! It's ridiculous that they are so ill informed..they put up a sign saying "best sold in pairs" but dn't say after a few months they may end up fighting due to hormones and will need to be neutered...I share ur ranting!!! Grrrr!!!

Re: The poor lonely bucks....
Thats one thing about PAH that annoyed me so much!!!!!!! Every single staff meeting I would bring this up but some colleagues are let downs
I refused bunnies to EVERYONE unless they bought in pairs or were buying a bunny to put in a pair and had big accommodation and were getting them neutered. It's probably why our branch had such bad pet sales compared to the company Absolutely annoys me and I have even put a comment about the small animals in my review I had to write when I left the company!!!!

Re: The poor lonely bucks....
I would like to see people have to pay the cost of neutering up-front when they buy the animal along with the vaccination costs. It would stop impulse buys, but obviously wouldn't deal with the people who just give their baby rabbits away once an accidental litter has been born. You do expect a shop that is meant to specialise in small animals to be (a) more knowledgeable and (b) have more integrity.

I'm glad I'm not the only person that feels this way. I guess if they did say that they would need neutering it would put people off but if you are genuine then it shouldn't do.
Another thing I noticed was a huge price hike, last week the bunnies were £20 each or £30 for the pair. This week they are £28 each or £40 for the pair.
Velvet Tears - they have a stunning agouti buck in there at the mo, he is much bigger than the other bucks and has been there for a while. I think he is much older than the others and they haven't managed to sell him because he is big and brown. I think he is a very handsome buck, but i reckon he'll end up in their rescue section like another large buck I saw the other week. I took a photo of him too, I'll try and upload it here later.
