Worried
Flopsy is going in for her spey tomorrow, it's the earliest she could get in. If she is pregnant, she's about 2 weeks gone which is quite significant. Does anyone have any experience with speying a pregnant female? I'm very worried that something will go wrong
Also, i was told to take some of her food in for afterwards, she normally would only get hay but should i take some pellets and veg too to make sure she definitely starts eating again?

Re: Worried
I have had quite a few pregnant bunnies speyed and they have been fine afterwards, I would send her with some hay, pellets and her favourite veggies but don't panic if she doesn't eat straight away, I am sure she will be fine, keep us posted

Re: Worried
When daisy has a GA I send him in with some hay but also his very fave foods so that he is tempted to get nibbling again straight away.
Also, she will need to be eating right up til the last minute too.
I hope it all goes well. let us know how she gets on.
Has she been showing any signs of nesting or anything like that?

Re: Worried
Just dropped her off, sent her with lots of hay, pellets and some broccoli.
No, she's not shown any sign of being pregnant, it's been two weeks and one day since i think they mated.
Don't know if rabbits take after their mothers, but her mum didn't make a nest until her labour started.

Re: Worried
Lots of vibes for Flopsy, hope it all goes well. from what I've read, most Doe's don't nest until just before the birth, and it can sometimes be the only indication you'll have that they are pregnant.
Re: Worried
She's back home! Everything went smoothly and they said she wasn't pregnant after all !
I'm soooo relieved

Re: Worried
Thank you! How long should i wait before worrying that she hasn't eaten or drank? She's been home a few hours and has had a nipple on a carrot drop treat and that's all.

Re: Worried
She might not eat straight away, but tempt her with green veg that she likes and keep an eye on how much you leave so you know if any has been eaten. Make sure she is warm as the GA tends to lower their body temperature too.
I am sure she will be fine. Keep an eye out for her pooing and weeing.

Re: Worried
Try and tempt her with what you can, as Nickie said make sure she is warm and try and check if she has done any poo's or wee's.
If she has eaten something (even if it is small) that is a good sign.
Post back if you are worried hun.

Re: Worried
Thanks all of you, i'd be a worrying mess without this forum!
I'm still a bit concerned that she hasnt eaten or drunk anything yet. No poop or wees either.
She's normally an outside bun, but i've brought her in to recover, the vet said i didnt need to bring in Topsy (the rabbit shes bonded with). I did bring her in for a visit earlier and Flopsy was not interested and spent the time running away from her.
Other than running away from Topsy, she's been lying in the same place. I'm sure that's normal as she might feel too sore to be hopping around?
Thank for all your help everyone!

Re: Worried
I would keep her on her own. I know they say to have their partner, but I have found that when they are recovering from a spay, they just want to sit and get over it alone. Another rabbit bouncing around seems to bother them.
When rabbits are in pain or just not feeling well, they tend to sit still and just wait it out. She won't be moving around too much and she might not eat very much. You can 'annoy' her by pushing a little food in her face to see if she will grab at it and eat a little. Don't do it too much, but it is a good idea just to get a little food into their system. Cut up carrot into little bits so it is easy to nibble, but make sure you know how much you left so you can have an idea how much she has eaten.
When Gloria and Holly (my does, now sadly both dead) were spayed, I brought them into my back porch in a small hutch and just left them for a few days. Within a day or so, they were more active, but I just wanted to be sure the wound healed up well.
Keep us posted about how she is. Sending healing vibes and lots of hugs.

Re: Worried
Hi Hun,
How is she doing this morning? Has she eaten anything yet? What about poo and wee?
Did the vet give her any pain killers?

Re: Worried
She's fine today, i've never been so happy to see poo and wee all over the place
She has eaten overnight, not as much as she normally would but she seems to be okay in herself, i've seen her grooming and hopping today too.
They said she had an injection of painkillers and it would last her a couple of days, so they didnt give me anymore.

Re: Worried
I'm so glad she's ok, and wasn't pregnant, but well done for doing what was best for her, it's not easy and the aftermath can be very stressful too. I'm sure she'll be fine now
Re: Worried
Thanks you guys
I've got to go through it all over again on tuesday when my other two get it done, although theres no added problems with these two
