Runny nose? Empty Runny nose?

Post by Amelia66 Tue Mar 22, 2011 11:31 pm

So i make a point to pick Marshall up everyday so he continues to be used to being picked up and carried. Hes been fine with it, a little wriggling but not too much, but in doing this i noticed today he has a bit of a runny nose. He had runny eyes for a few days but today it seemed better now his nose is running, well not running but the fur under his nostrils is wet. it started with one now its both ... i just wondered if anyone had any ideas on what this is. He is perfectly fine in everything else, eating/drinking/ running around like a loon. Will be booking him in to the vets tommoro as i was planning on going this week anyhow, but i just wanted to know if anyone had any ideas?

It depends what is coming out of his nose. Rabbits noses should be a little moist as that is how they intensify smell (thanks Anne for that insight). However, if there is yellowish discharge it could be something that needs your vet's attention.

What are his eyes like just now? Are they back to normal or is there swelling around them. You may also need to check his genital area. Has he been vaccinated for myxi?

It may be absolutely nothing but if you are worried enough to post, you would be as well letting your vet check him over to put your mind at rest.

he has only just turned 12 weeks and so has not yet been vaccinated, that's the reason i needed a vet trip this week. Its no particular colour its just wet, more so than it has been since i got him.

Eyes are back to normal, there doesn't seem to be anything coming from them today.

Will probably just ask the vet, just to check there is nothing wrong.

I would just get the vet to give him a little check over just in case, like Nickie says, just in case and to put your mind at rest.

Sending him nose rubs x x

The vet should give him a thorough check over when he gets his myxo vaccine, I'd get it soon, as the mozzie population is about to burst out on the scene, and it takes 2 weeks to absorb and become effective.
He'll also need his VHD jab 2 weeks after his Myxo one Smile

It may just be a change of environment or similar. I hope he's ok. keep us updated

Is he outside? It could even be a response to the change in the weather. A vet check is certainly the best idea though....and make sure he gets a dental check-up whilst there as poor teeth can cause runny eyes and noses.
