Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
I've been giving her drops since Sunday and there's no improvement
I've to giver her them for 10 days and go back if it's not better.
It is only watering in the evening, from what I've seen.
I can't help but fear the worst and think this is teeth related.
Does anyone have any experience of this? I have no idea what this would mean for her if it is teeth. She had them checked last Wednesday and from what the vet could see, there was nothing alarming. Although I know it can be difficult to check without sedating her. But because of this I'm thinking it might be something deeper in her jaw, like a root problem or an abscess or something.
But she's fine otherwise! Still eating well, stealing treats, binkying around. She was even climbing earlier.
I don't know what to think
Please, if anyone has any thoughts, hit me with them!

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
I would suspect teeth too as the first culprit, second an allergie or infection?
I would phone the vet. If the washes havent shown any improvement by now I guess it's unlikely they will over the next few days.
This might not be helpful but it is what my gut is saying.
So......
Another bucket of vibes for Molly and hugs for you.

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
Thanks for your reply, Claudia.
I'm probably overreacting somewhat but I am gutted about this Just when I thought her teeth were fine again. I have a hundred thoughts running through my head about what the problem might be and how to fix it

I've just called the vet. The one I really like isn't in again until next Thursday!
I'm waiting for him to phone me.

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
He got the receptionist to call me and we are booked in to see him on Saturday morning at 9:20 That'll be fun! OH is offshore so it'll be me, the little guy and 2 rabbits off to the vet at the crack of dawn Ok, not quite the crack of dawn but that's early for us!
They have also provisionally booked her in for Thursday at 8am in case she needs a GA for anything. But at this stage the vet doesn't seem overly concerned because there doesn't appear to be any puss.
I hope he's right.
I had a poke around her face last night and this morning (she was delighted!) and I certainly can't feel anything on the outside. Although I know that doesn't mean much.
She didn't like me doing it but I really don't think it was because she was sore, more that it just annoyed her! And I did it to Junior too, to see how he reacted and he behaved the same way she did

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
Did the other vet flush it at all? Could be a blocked tear duct (Charlie has had this) they give it s flush through and its fine.
If not jen if suggest an X-ray if the roots :-( :-(

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
No, she just looked at her eye and said we'd try drops of it didn't clear up. Which aren't helping!
Katie you've just given me some hope that it isn't teeth related! What you've just said and the fact she's eating fine and there's no puss is making me feel a little better
Thank you
I'm assuming GA is required for flushing?

No GA required I don't think, i seem to remember that John whipped him away and he was back 5 mins later with a bit of a runny nose and a grumpy look about him.

Would you believe, her eye has all but dried up!
It's just a teeny bit wet now. We are still off to the vet in the morning though. I want to get to the bottom of this.

This is good to hear! I pity them trying that with Molly Moo. I've been bit a few times just with the drops! Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
I hope you don't have too much hassle getting to and from the vets and I hope it's good news.
I will be interested to hear what the verdict is. I've said in other posts that Henry has a runny eye. When it happens it looks like Molly's ... no pus or thick discharge, no obvious sign of infection or foreign objects. It's just like a single tear drop escapes onto his fur and dries up. It happens about every three or four weeks ... maybe more often in winter..... just one tear drop. His vet saw him first on New Years Eve last year, and under sedation he checked his teeth, flushed his tear ducts and did a skull X-ray. Nothing on all counts. He's baffled by it .... all three vets at the practice have examined him and each found nothing wrong. It's weird but it doesn't appear to bother him and once his fur his dry and I've stroked the stiffness out of it he looks perfect again ... until the next tear.
I keep a check when I see it's wet, but I've accepted it's just an Henry thing!

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
Thanks guys
Getting there wasn't too much bother, my mum came round so I didn't have to take the little guy with me.
Mixed bag of news. He said her tear duct is indeed infected and she's going in on Thursday to have it flushed out under GA because the drops aren't getting into it to clear the infection. After it's flushed the drops should work. Molly had a gooey eye when we got there so he could see exactly what I was seeing.
He did say that this can often be caused by tooth problems so they are of course going to have a good look at her teeth while she's out, and remove any spurs. But he said the fact that she's fine in every other way makes him hopeful that it's an isolated incident.
He also said that there's no reason to pay for X-rays at this stage but if it doesn't clear or happens again then it would be something to seriously consider.
He also said there's absolutely nothing to suggest there's an abscess in there
So I'm feeling more positive than when I started this thread! Just need to wait and see what Thursday brings...

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
Oh I'm glad to hear that there is a plan to act upon.
I would suggest that you discuss and sign for a possible x ray anyway.
If she is under GA and the visual examination won't clarify they could do it straight away avoiding another GA at a later point.
So if it is pesky tooth deal with that and not necessary do an x ray. But if there are no spurs to be seen one may suspect root problems and only an x ray will diagnose this.
Until then unlimited noms and treats for Molly
And plenty of hugs for you.

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
Glad to hear Molly's got a positive diagnosis (wish it had thrown light on Henry's "thing"). Good luck for Thursday.
I'd go for an X-ray too. I insisted Henry have one when the vet said it wasn't really needed ... I figured it would be there as a reference in the future should there be further cause for worry.
Henry's vet isn't too concerned about his teeth as long as he is chomping up the hay but he did point out a tooth root on his right side that he said should be monitored.

I am so pleased that you have had some good news at least love and it is good that the vet does not think it is teeth related. I agree, you did a good thing in getting an xray because now, as you say, it is on file for future reference. Good luck for Thursday darling and thank you for keeping us up to speed on things.

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
Hope all goes well on thursday. Sorry to hear its still causing concerns. If its any consolation at all (probably not, but just in case) my Dillon had a runny eye for ages, i didn't go to the vet with him but bathed it several times a day but nothing happend, i was starting to think it would be a vet job, but was very preoccupied at the time with Tia being ill, then when Tia died, within a few days it stopped, and hasn't been runny since!

Re: Molly's runny eye is getting me down :(
Thank you all
I will be sure and keep you updated.
I can understand your point about asking for the X-Ray anyway, but I can also see the vet's point of view. If it happens again, she'll have to go back under GA anyway so it can be done then. At the moment, we are keeping our fingers crossed this is a one off
