Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
... and a partridge in a pear tree.
Well this morning we've had some more runny poo patches. I picked Jeeves up and gave him a quick clean, he wasn't as messy as yesterday. I then decided to check on Tigger (after a lot of fighting) I pinned her down and noticed she had a little bit of dark runny c's coming out
Plenty of hay has been eaten and lots of water drank and both perfectly chipper also plenty of lovely normal poo. I gave them very few herbs this morning in hopes of encouraging them to eat hay. I've given them a little dried plantain each as I've heard it's good for the digestive system and I've got pro-c in the water.
I spent an hour cleaning the shed so left them out in the run. I noticed two small left over caecatrophes - they were formed. No idea who the culprit of those is.
Should I be feeding grass? Anything else anyone recommends giving to them?
At least they've chosen Rabbit Awareness Week incase we need to go to the vets!
Annoyingly both overdue for their vacs as Tigger was unwell. Get to the point when I'm ready to book them in and now they both do this, so now even longer to wait til they get done so I am vigorously attacking any mozzies I see!

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
There must be something in the air
Layla is leaving caecals but has had no change in diet or stressing event, Poppy has a slightly sticky bum again and our foster mum Charlotte also.
Humum has just given very little veg today, lots of varieties of fresh hay and fewer pellets. It's frustrating because she is trying to get weight on both Poppy and Charlotte

There must be something!
Jeeves had it last night so I gave him a clean up, went down this morning and they were both at it.
There's been no stressful event that I can think of whatsoever and absolutely no change in diet. I cut back on the pellets tonight and will try some grass with their hay tonight.
Botty vibes to Layla, Poppy and Charlotte!

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
I'm well and truly confused to be honest.
Tigger is great, no more runny bottom since yesterday morning.
Jeeves? Ehh...
Is there a set colour for caecatrophes? or can they vary? I'm asking because I found some sludgy poo last night, like messy not properly formed caecatrophes yet a medium brown ish colour like normal poo. It was in the run and next to it were some very golden normal poo and it's normally only him that poos out there and even then on very rare occasions.
I recall a few months ago he did it but it was one small bit and that was all there was.
Both last night and this morning he is brilliantly happy, his normal self running round and begging to me for food. Eating plenty of hay and a normal amount of water & pro-c has been drank. Yet he seems to be doing a selection of poo he did them all in the space of half an hour. The first lot was like pure liquid brown like the unformed caecatrophes he had earlier in the year. The next I caught him eating some caecatrophes from his bottom and when he moved there was a little shiny patch obviously where they had touched the floor and made a mess. The next was then the medium brown sludge. And the final was an almost formed caecatroph. All I need now are normal poo and I have the whole set.
Ideally I need to know if he is doing normal poo too, at least then I will know it's unformed ceacatrophes rather than actual diarrhoea. There were several in the shed last night so hopefully some had to be him. Weirdly enough no poo mess was done last night, only when I walked in this morning and he started running around!
What a kerfuffle.
The last time I went to the vets with this they gave him biolapis and it did the trick. He's on pro-c at the moment so maybe that will help.
UPDATE (since above update)
Went in and Tigger was in toilet 1, meanwhile in toilet two were more lovely poo and I'm hoping they were Jeeves! He was in the vicinity. If I had of stayed in there the 10 minutes I was in the house he wouldn't have gone!

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
There's far less squidgy poop from our three today, after the pellet reduction last night. Humum has just recalled that she opened a new sack of SS and noticed the pellets seemed 'airier' - although she mixed them with the last of the old sack she is wondering whether a slight change in the ingredients or processing might be upsetting delicate tums but not robust ones... hmmm...
Unsticky bottom vibes for Jeeves He certainly sounds quite well

Goodness - how confusing!
Would it be worth giving him some fibreplex for a day or so just to see if things go back to normal??

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
It's incredibly confusing!
I've just been down to give them their tea (hay hay grass and more hay) Once again we haven't had any problems all day. One left over 'c' but no mess. Last night I reduced pellets but it seemed after he was in a right state so I've cut them out altogether tonight and will see what I come home to later; maybe the pellets last night were too rich.
I've not got any fibreplex . May have to see if I can order some as shops round me don't sell it. Is it literally just fibre?
Thanks for the vibes he's giving you all a cheeky smile right now! He's perfectly chipper, was chasing me around the run while I picked grass

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
It re-balances their belly - we got ours from the hay experts. Charlie quite often gets a runny bum for no reason, so I give him a fibreplex - normally just two doses and it sorts him right out.

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
Fantastic, thanks! Great to know someone else has trouble with random upset tummies and bottoms. I take it can be used alongside pro-c in the water.
This is the second time he's had it this year and I wonder if it could be something to do with the moult he has. Both times he's been in the middle of a massively impressive moult.

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
If it is moult related pineapple or papaya may be useful. It may also be useful to incorperate some of the hugely expensive fibafirst from supreme in their diet - this type of food seems to really improve poo in this house. Feeding them as a treat seems to be adequate. Fibreplex is made by protexin who also do a pro-fibre supplement that is a pellet you can add to food. Fibreplex and pro-fibre are both fibre plus probiotics. It maybe enough to switch to a stronger probiotic for a while such as bio-lapis or avi-pro plus or protexin professional. All are available from the hay experts and probably monster pet supplies, viovet and vet uk.

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
There's no stringy or hairy poo, I just wondered if the moult made him feel under the weather because his fur is just so thick. I've decided to steer clear of pineapple at the moment, I don't want it to cause more of a sticky bottom than normal.
I'll deffo get some fibreplex in for the first aid box and I'll have a look at the fibafirst and the pro-fibre pellet supplement. Thanks Cheryl!!
Last night I didn't give any pellets and when I put them to bed there was no mess! Only one dried caecotroph. This morning there was a dry flattened caecotroph on the floor, a sticky patch and two fresh c's. So a heck of an improvement!

No they aren't. Tigger looks at me as if to say 'I'm fine, he's the one who's ill!'
I went in last night and they got really excited because they knew it was tea time. Oops. They were happy with grass though, they get really excited about it and have even paid more attention to that than the crunchy I've had in my hand!

Re: Two runny bottoms UD/ Improving
I thought I'd posted on here but I don't think I have as I have been looking for my post
Not a lot of people realise but moulting can make bunnies very poorly and depressed and can cause them to have a dirty bottom as it really upset's their system. Some of our buns go off their food, are depressed or just very quiet when they are in heavy moults.
Not forgetting that when they are grooming they can digest some fur and cause upset tummies and then we give them a little pineapple which seems to get things moving.
Arrowroot biscuits are always handy as well to give a bunny a little bit when they have a touch of diarrhea .
