Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
He is home with his removed tooth in bag ! ..... He is very sleepy , more so than normal probably because they had to sedate him more due to extraction...
The thing Im worried about is his cheek is still twitching... even more so now... I thought this would stop once the tooth was removed .. maybe its inflammation and the metacam will help...
He has eaten some dandies /watercress and basil... so thats a good start.
Will give him some antibiotic in a little while.

Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
Hi hun.
So glad to hear he is home safe and sound.
The cheek may just be twitching because he has been pulled and pushed about today, perhaps just needs some time to heal.
Really good news that he is eating.
Please give him some gentle cuddles from me.

Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
Hi ...
Just an update.... after 5 dys of antibiotics Pumpkin refused to take it... we had a fight.... over night he become gastric ... so the hell did I !
We agreed to stop the antibiotic as he is doing so well that the antibiotic is now causing issue and upsetting him.
I thought the twitching of his whiskers had stopped but it hasnt... it is just very slight, but he seems ok in himself... maybe it is permanent nerve damage ? I have tried metacam but it doesnt seem to make a difference.
Has anyone heard of this happening ? I have searched the internet but cant find anything.... He has had this twitching in his little cheek so his whiskers twitch now for 8 weeks....
After 2 days of hand feeding him the best dandies in town and the realisation I wasnt going to make him take anymore antibiotics he forgave me and now he is back to his normal self ...

Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
Im glad that he is back to his normal self bless him, the daily anti-b battle is a hard one for us to win!
What a shame the twitching hasnt stopped. Is it a constant twitching?
It does sound like nerve damage doesnt it. Does it affect his eating?

Aww I'm so glad he's back to his normal self. I bet it was a scare when he went gastric.
Does the twitching seem to bother him?
Cuddles for the both of you!

Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
Hi Katie + Dot,
The twitching is constant, when he sleeps or is chilling out with me on the sofa then it is only slight... When he is active or frightened it goes mad ... which is why I think its a nerve, the faster the blood pumps near the nerve the more it twitches.. thats the theory at the moment..
The actual twitching does seem to effect him at all, he is eating, playing , running round the gdn + having sex with his teddy. So I should be over the moon, but its just this nagging doubt ....why is the twitching there ?
Will see the vet next week and discuss it further....

Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
Sounds like it might be nerve damage as he has had a lot of trauma in that area. Hopefully, it will lessen as the area heals and nerve regenerates. If it isn't bothering him, it is probably nothing to worry about. But if you are nervous about it, definitely speak to your vet to put your mind at rest. Glad that everything went well for him. It's amazing how quickly they just get back to normal.

Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
Hi,
He seemed to be doing well, we only went back to the vets for post tooth extraction check up and boy am I glad we did..... The hole is still there, where the tooth was removed, even the vet was shocked.. it hasnt healed and was bleeding a little still, she got out some hay/grass that had been wedged in the hole... So he is back on antibtotics again.
His whiskers dont seem to be twitching as much again, so maybe it was trapped grass.. I am just praying Pumpkin behaves and will take his antibiotic without going gastric like he did last time.... We are going back again next week...

Re: Meloxidyl/Metacam
Finally the hole where Pumpkins tooth was removed has closed... there is pink skin over it, so have to continue with antibiotic ... I seem to have won the battle of getting the antibiotic in him
