Fibreplex tips
Hi guys,
Do you have any tips on how I can get Fibreplex into Thumper??
I tried cutting open a mange tout this morning and squirting it in there but she just turned her nose up at it. We ended up having to pin her down, which is not ideal and very stressful for her. Even then, she just sat with it in her mouth, eventually opened her mouth and the majority of it fell out
She's fussy at the best of times so this is a nightmare
Any advice greatly received

Thumper doesn't like banana!?
I have to eat a banana standing up otherwise I get robbed!
I really want to offer some advice but I don't even know what fibreplex is!! But I think the idea of putting it on a food she loves is a good idea!!
Maybe put it on her slipper friend to lick off?!

Re: Fibreplex tips
Mine would eat it wrapped in a spring green leaf but if she's too clever for that are you squirting it in to her mouth utilising the gap between her incisors and molars by pushing the end in at the side of her mouth rather than the front between her incisors?

OMG this made me laugh
To quote Cheryl on a previous thread: It's a high fibre supplement and bulker that aids digestive transit - so make the buns poo firmer and bigger if they suffer with excessive soft poos.
Explained far better than I could manage

Hmmm, I've not tried that. But I can pretty much guarantee that she won't like it. She's a fussy madam! Still.... It's worth a go so I will pick some up.
Thanks

Re: Fibreplex tips
It's like, you get away with everything once. She took it off basil once, then won't go near the stuff again. Same with parsley. Even her favourite mange tout gets a suspicious sniff before she takes it because we put it in there once.Sooz wrote:Mine would eat it wrapped in a spring green leaf but if she's too clever for that are you squirting it in to her mouth utilising the gap between her incisors and molars by pushing the end in at the side of her mouth rather than the front between her incisors?
We are doing it exactly the way you say, between the incisors and molars We've no choice because she just clamps her mouth shut
It's a shame that we have to do it this way because going by the way the vets were talking when we were there last, I think she's going to be on and off it for the rest of her days

Re: Fibreplex tips
It is a shame, especially as some rabbits like the taste and will eat it from the tube!
Re: Fibreplex tips
I read that somewhere. Trust her to be one of the few that doesn't like it.
She spits the majority of it out, I keep finding it about half an hour after I've given her it.

Re: Fibreplex tips
Hi,
I make a puree of a few pellets and boiled water and mix any medicine including Fibreplex in it. Sometimes I add banana or grated apple. As long as they are eating I recommend this method, much less stressful and more reliable than squirting medicine in them.

Re: Fibreplex tips
Hi Diane and welcome to HH
Thanks for your reply. I have actually been out today and got some other stuff as the fibreplex is stressing her out waaaaay too much
If this stuff doesn't work out (which it might not, she's a picky little madam!) I will def give your method a go.
Thanks again

Hi Jo,
I managed to get it down her that way once but you can't get away with it a second time. She's too smart for her own good
Thanks tho

Re: Fibreplex tips
Glad I came across this. We have been given the dreaded Fibreplex today and had to force it in but am now hopeful that if/when he starts eating again we might be able to mix it with food. Thanks everyone. Hope Thumper is doing well with new meds!
