A food question - SS or Excel Sensitive?
I have a food question. How can you decide which is the best food? I currently feed Science Selective, but have been looking at Burgess Excel Sensitive - just out of interest. Im really struggling to make my mind up. The new burgess one has more crude fibre in than the SS, and is grain free, but it contains molasses. Supreme say molasses arent good though and can cause dental problems?
Anyone have and advice?
Heres the science selective: http://www.supremepetfoods.com/product/science-selective-rabbit/
And heres the burgess: http://www.burgesspetcare.co.uk/excelfeedingplan/about-the-feeding-plan/sensitive-nuggets.html
After reading it, im sort of leaning towards burgess, but im not 100% sure.

Re: A food question - SS or Excel Sensitive?
We have a mixture, 50% Burgess Excel and 50% Science Selective.
That's after someone (Cheryl?) on here said they feed a mix of two or three foods so if they ever can't get one of the foods, they know their buns will be ok with the other(s). Humum thought that was a brilliant point
We also tried A&P, which is supposed to be a brilliant food, but nobunny liked it and Humum couldn't keep their weights up on it.
She has a plan to get the buns pellet rations right down over summer while they have access to fresh noms, but keep them on some so she can increase again for winter if she needs to.
I'm still on Burgess Junior pellets, although Humum sneaks in a couple of Adult Excel and a couple of SS too as she wants me on grown-up food. I'm like a bottomless pit at the moment, I'll eat anything which is put in front of me

Re: A food question - SS or Excel Sensitive?
I have had problems with keeping their weight up with the SS in teh past too. Not big problems, but i have noticed especially when they go outside they do drop a fair bit and its nothing to do with any underlying conditions. Which is why i introduced the burgess. They did ok on this but i went through a lot!
At the moment they get 50:50 burgess excel and SS because i was in the process of weaning them back on to SS, but its taking ages because i had loads of pellets to get rid of.

Re: A food question - SS or Excel Sensitive?
You're right Sparky, it was me with the mix.
I agree with the Supreme stance on molasses and try to avoid food which has sugary ingredients. But bearing in mind that Supreme get the calories up in their pellets by using alfalfa as the main ingredient so it's swings and roundabouts really. Mine at the moment have selective mature, excel mature, excel light, and a selective normal (bearing in mind the excel mature and the selective normal were gifts from the companies). Plus some fibafirst as digging box treats. And as Sparky pointed out it does mean they will eat anything - which it is why it is such a surprise that they aren't fans of the cubes. The pigs are getting the sensitive diet as part of their mix ATM but I am not sure I am going to be buying it for the buns - I am really confused about this no grain issue, I can't see what is better about removing it. And it seeing it next to the pellets in the piggy bowl next to the regular pellets it just looks over processed.

I do a mix too for the same reason, plus it sort of gives them a change. They don't appear to have a favourite, they just love their pellets!
Mine have Wagg pellets and SS at the moment, the Wagg ones are quite high in fibre, but are teeny. I'm not too keen on them by look, but they get woolfed down. I like the shape of the SS ones, as I feel it helps with their teeth, but I'm not sure how scientifically sound an argument that is!
