Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
Since Saturday he's been eating like normal and he hasn't had anymore painkiller. But if i think about it, maybe he has been eating less hay (just like Joey!)
I'm going to ring the vet today (fingers crossed she's in) and will ask if she thinks a dental is best before the spurs do start cutting into his tongue.
He made a little quiet honking sound about 2 months ago when I first introduced the new hay. He did it a couple of times when I first put it down and then stopped, I thought he was just being a piggy!
Then last week he seemed to make the noise again for a few minutes and then stopped and then did it the next day. Haven't heard it since yesterday and it was there again for a few seconds and stopped.
At first I thought behavioural, then my paranoia said respitory but now I'm wondering if it's teeth.
UD! I have just caught the little monkey with his front paws in the litter box digging it all out like there's no tomorrow. This is the Jeeves I know!

Sometimes I wonder if I speak too soon. Just found a small spot of brown liquid on the floor.
Vet is going to ring me at 6.30 ish to discuss further action, something obviously isn't right.

I've had no more poo puddles, just the one the size of a 5p and I've let them both outside for a run as they probably need it.
Jeeves is running around and even did a (uncoordinated and clumsy) binky
Vets haven't phoned me back though. I'll try again tomorrow!

I'm glad he seems bright enough, although it would be nice to have an answer as to what is causing it...

Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
Just had a call from the vet, she apologised for not calling me last night at 6.30 but her surgery didn't actually finish 'til 9.30 in the end.
His Baytril and Zantac finish tonight, and she is leaving me out some more bio lapis and a liquid form of emeprid to keep his tummy ticking over like normal.
She said I'm to update her next week after the course and if he is still no better than we can do two things, a faecal sample to check for parasites and a dental.
If I feel really strongly that it is those spurs though I'm really going to have to push it.

I think sometimes your gut feelings turn out to be right, and you should not hesitate to be quite insistent to the vet in those cases

Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
I definitely will push it if he is no better. I think I would rather spend more money on a dental first than send off a faecal sample. He's eating brilliantly, not as much hay as normal but I think they're both getting fed up with what I'm giving them (again!) so it may not be his teeth . The vet said he has always had little spurs on his teeth and has never seen any ulcerations etc or dribble so that's why she hasn't done a dental straight away. We shall see, difficult little things
He's had a hard tummy for the past 2/3 days now, it's not rock hard and I can manipulate it and he is in no pain. He's breathing fine, you can't see the stomach distended from just looking at him and he is eating like a mad man and running round and lovely poos.
When he wasn't eating saturday he was in bad pain, he couldn't get comfy and even flopped out in his litter tray which he never does and when I poked around at him in there he just didn't bother.
So at least with that I have something to base his pain on and so far he's fine.
He started his emeprid this morning and the vet said it is much better than zantac so hopefully it will get rid of this hard tummy.
Fingers crossed for my little man.

Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
It's so hard to know what to chose re diagnostics v dental.
About 4 years ago I had a similar problem with Artie but instead of diarrhoea type issues it was uneaten caecatrophes. The local vet I used then said he had a little spur but it probably wouldn't be causing his intermittant lack of eating. I got convinced the spur was the problem, this is the frist time he went to see FHB who agreed with the local vet that the spur was very unlikely to be the problem. I started feeing him less Excel, as advised by those more experienced than myself, and the caecotroph problem improved. The eating improved but he still had off days and had a few stasis episodes here and there. Eventually, about 6 months after the start of the issues, I took him to FHB again with one of these stasis episodes and he was diagnosed with a chronic bladder sludge problem (needing surgery) which could well have been causing his 'unwellness' all along .
I hope you find out what the problem is, given some of the gut/digestive symptoms I think I'd be inclined to be going along the route of having his poo analysed, which I think from your last post you really don't know whether to blame his teeth or not (it's so flipping hard to be sure!)

Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
That's really interesting it sounds just like Jeeves, at first I thought it was the greens and the grassy hay I was giving as it was quite rich, I cut it back and he was ok, no more runny bum. Then he just went again but this time stopped eating so there is some sort of deeper problem.
I think sometimes we really convince ourselves it's teeth even if it isnt because we know how much trouble they can cause. Some days I think it's teeth then other days I don't.
Thank you, I really hope I can find it out.
Has anyone used infacol for gas? I saw a post from a long time ago by Sooz about Loki having bloat and giving infacol.
I'm not sure if this is good alongside emeprid or if to not give it since he is eating and doesn't seem in pain.

Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
I would certainly want a dental done, a tiny spur can cause so much trouble even if it is not long enough to stick in the gum or tongue. This is why Chudleigh was so ill with his tummy and stopped eating he had a tiny tiny spur sadly for Chuds he had a massive heart attack coming round from the GA but then he could have been a lot older than we thought he was.
I am surprised your vet hasn't given him a dental as I think when that spur is removed he will be a lot better, the spur being there is causing him to panic and is upsetting his tummy. I don't think he will be 100% till that spur is removed.

Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
Thanks Holly, I'm feeling confused and conflicted with myself! I have to be careful I don't over think things too much or my anxiety and slight paranoia will get the better of me.
I really do keep too-ing and fro-ing with what it could be. One minute I am adamant it's his teeth like you said Maysie, and the next I think it could be parasites (vets words) or his awful, awful moult.
I am going to be so on my toes with this. He seems to be doing fairly well at the mo but he's only had his first lot of emeprid today, second tonight.

Sending more vibes from us to Jeeves. Hope you do get to the bottom of it
I can't help but think if it was his teeth he'd have constant symptoms, I know when I've had dental bunnies in the past that's what always happened. Poor Jeeves, if only he could tell you what it is.

Re: Jeeves not eating :( UD 'Thurs AM'
I know, that's what I'm confused with. I thought if it was his teeth he would stop eating and stay like it especially with pellets and hay but may nibble greens.
But then again as Maysie said, maybe he can feel it and he is panicking slightly even though he doesn't seem it. He has a cheeky look in his eye and goodness knows he's eating well.
It's the drinking I have to keep an eye on at the mo.
I'd love to get to the bottom of this. This is the first time he's ever had an episode like this. As I said earlier he had a dental this time last year but that's about it. I hardly even get a sneeze out of him.

Has he got a water dish as well as a bottle because bunnies with dental spurs can't always drink out of a bottle and so they find it a lot easier to drink out of a dish.

Yes they have both. As I'm not with them 24/7 it's always hard for me to tell who is drinking. Knowing him though he drinks when I'm not here just to wind me up.
From the bottle over a 24 hour period I would say between 400-600ml is drank depending on heat and probiotic etc and that's an awful lot for one bunny.
UD- just caught him drinking from the bottle like normal, no toying around with it or anything. That's a relief.
