Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
I have always thought Bob is younger and he has no plums so I didn't see the point of stressing him out for the sake of avoiding a few hours loneliness. He is not happy with me though.
I asked what medications they would receive and he volunteered pain relief (i.e. I didn't have to suggest it) which is a good sign but don't worry, I am not leaving that surgery until they are drugged to the eyeballs
He didn't really understand what I was on about with a gut stimulant but when I mentioned metoclopromide he perked up and said that yes they did get that, along with an anti-emetic. I mentioned that rabbits are unable to vomit but he said it "helps with the after effects of anaesthesia". Is it normal to be given anti-emetics?! A bit odd...
I am preparing for some very unhappy bunnies on arriving there but I have the hay, pellets, veggies and peppermint tea on standby
Any other suggestions as to how I can make them comfortable?

Aw - breathes a sigh of relief that the ops are done and they will soon be home. I am sure the boys will soon be back to normal. Sending loads of recovery vibes to them all.

Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
I would have thought that the metoclop would have been enough antiemetic for feelings of nausea in a bun Did he say which one it was?
Glad they're all through their ops though, what a worry for you, sending hugs and nose rubs ~~~~

We are home but had a minor drama and had to take Dom back. What I thought was a ruptured stitch/wound was in fact just a bright red, swollen, POINTY testicle. It was raw and had a wound on it but fr my small amount of poking looked like he had split his glue.
Poor boy.
Stu is back to his normal self, hopping around but is not eating. He took one pellet from my hand earlier and that's it
Dom is woozy still but has munched on some greens -= admittedly mainly cos he's annoyed at me for waving them in his face, grabbing them to throw them away and realising they taste good
Hazel is drugged to the eyeballs. Her body temp is low (hers ears are almost chilled to the touch ) and she has not stirred except from where I plonked her over an hour ago to where she has settled. I have a bottle filled with hot water along her side and a towel covering her. I don't own a hot water bottle or a wheat pack (not much need here) so a 2L water bottle was the best I could improvise. She has not eaten anything and is worrying me slightly although the vet did say she was the last to go under.
Thanks for the vibes guys, I feel a bit out of the woods except with Hazel. I am hoping she sleeps it off and is a bit more sprightly later but I am not sleeping until she has eaten something at least.

How have I missed all this!? So sorry H... vibes for the bunsters
Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
how long did it take for her to perk up? I am not worried about the drowsiness, more the body temp...
Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
Yeah I'm with Lynda, Metaclopromide IS an antielmetic.....I have taken it in some anti-nausea prescripton tablets before. Maybe it was metaclop he was referring to.
Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
Am glad they are back home.
It was 24 hours before Rosie and Hollie seemed to start to get back to normal after their spays this year. The boys bounced back much quicker.
Sending loads of healing vibes still. And how is Bob - is he pleased at their return?

Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
Bob is a bit puzzled as to why everyone is so quiet but seems much happier. He came and sat with me for a while
odd to think he is now the dominant male

Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
oh sooz, maybe.
I thought metaclop was the gut stimulant from Jane's earlier post. Sorry was probably just being thick.
Am brewing up some peppermint tea as we speak for them... Maybe it will get Hazel's temp up if she has some

It is but it also has anti-nausea properties (not that to my knowledge rabbits need them, it's just useful in other species)

Glad they got through their ops.
Here's hoping the GA wears off very soon. I would keep refilling the bottle with hot water for Hazel.
More vibes on their way

Glad to hear everything seems to be going well. Yep, metoclop is definitely used as an anti-emetic in humans - can be used during migraines.

Glad they have all got through their ops. I always thought the girlies were a bit slower to recover from their ops?? I'm sure she'll be fine. Do you have more painkiller for if they need it?

Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
Well we've just had another litte drama - I was in the bath and hubby comes running in saying Hazel is squeaking.
Apparently one of the boys tried to hump her and she couldn't run away so was making these sort of squeaky breathing noises. We have calmed her down and separated them. I thought maybe the boys would be woozy still and not bother but it seems they have recovered quicker than I thought (They're both eating and pooing now). So Hazel has the run of the room while the boys are confined to the cage
Poor girl, selfish boys!
She seems ok now but I will check on her later. I checked the wound - nothing untoward luckily!

Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
Well I found Hazel this morning lying on a rather large pile of dried caecs with a wet bottom. I cleaned her up (she had some stringy, wet poos hanging out as well as being urine-soaked) as best I could but she has eaten some SS this morning.
Her body temp seems much more normal but she is still very subdued. The wound, rather surprisingly, look really good. Very clean and not particularly inflamed.
The boys are active as normal today - no humping that I've observed but Dom is chewing the hell out of their table so I take that as a good sign. I haven't checked the boys' wounds this morning as they were too skittish and I didn't want to stress anyone out.
Poor Hazel, she looks so miserable and must be feeling ill as she has let both Mr B and I have her on our lap - she is normally away like a shot.
Thanks for the vibes guys, they seem to be working

Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
Awwwwwwwww I do hope Hazel starts to feel brighter soon.
Personally I'd restrict the area she has to move about in for a few days to allow all the abdominal muscles to heal aswell as the skin.
Still sending vibes

Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
thanks Jane. I shall do that. She is back in teh cage with the boys and seems hesitant to move from under the table but I shall block the area off some more for her
Re: Neutering and vets - U/D Saturday
