Vibes for my boy, Shadow, please
Hi, here I am again back from being awol yet again. I only ever seem to post when the boy is ill, sorry.
Anyway, Shadow didn't dive into his nuggets this morning like he normally does, he didn't even move to be honest, he had eaten all last nights supper and a basket of hay from last night tho. Left him to see if he'd eat them while I did the school run which he didn't so got an appointment at the vet. Took him down there, they listened to his tummy which appeared to be moving, checked his teeth (said there were small spikes on the right, none on the left and no ulcers and nothing to be concerned about)
I was given some rescue sachets, 1 mixed with 90ml of water to be given 3 times a day.
Came home. The sachets are proving difficult to get him to take, think I've managed about 25mls that's all, he's been shivering, not sure if he's in pain or stressed.
Had the in laws over yesterday, my nephew wanted to stroke Shadow so bro in law opened the door and little one went in! So I got him out so could he stoke him, I thought the safest option, he was very gentle but with 5 kids about I think he was a little scared (the other 4, 2 of which were mine, weren't in the room at this point but had been rather noisey as they are when they're all together) as I went to put Shadow back in his crate he squirmed and knocked against the side, I'm now worrying in case hes injured and it's not been picked up.
I've rang the vet back but they didn't want me to go back down only keep an eye on him over night, I've given him a dose of metacam and he's eaten some dried, dandelion, plantain and a fresh dandelion out the garden.
You know when you just know in yourself they're not right, I feel like that, the vet spoke to me like I was stupid and didn't have a clue, I kept telling her I know what he's like normally when his gut has slowed before and he's not the same as that.
Any thoughts or advice?

Re: Vibes for my boy, Shadow, please
Keep going with the recovery. I find sometimes (like yesterday) that when Bruce stops eating the metacam and the ranitidine (stomach meds) help but it is the recovery food that makes the difference. Bruce almost needs to be shown that eating won't hurt him or that the hassle of being syringe fed is so great that he will just get on and feed himself. You should only be looking to get a small amount in at a time or you run the risk of getting food on the lungs.

Oh honey sending vibes for him.
I think you know your bun and if you are not happy you needto push it with the vets. We had similar thing when daiz was first poorly and if I hadn't pushed it I wouldn't have got a referral and he wouldn't be here now.
Sending love Hunni xx

Re: Vibes for my boy, Shadow, please
Sorry to hear he is poorly
It is encouraging that he is nibbling some bits and pieces. I've no first and experience with this (for which I am grateful!) but I would definitely follow Cheryl's advice
As for the vet speaking to you like you're stupid, I've been there and I know how infuriating it is!!! I think they forget sometimes that we are the paying customer
I hope Shadow is back on top form real soon.

Re: Vibes for my boy, Shadow, please
Hi all, thank you Maysie for updating, I'm so sorry I didn't update myself, had a horrendous week, with family! Hopefully that has calmed a little.
As you know now, Shadow is fine, he was back to himself pretty quick, I'm wondering if the kale he'd had the night before may have upset his tummy, I know a few have had problems with greens etc.
Thanks again for the vibes.
