Hoppers! Call to action - Update...may be positive response
Bunnyhugga have asked us to extend out campaign in hutch sizes to Wilkinsons. I'm Told
That they are also actively saying that getting a bunny for your child is a good thing to teach them responsibility!!!!!!!!! (Although I've not checked this yet)
Sj - please could we have one of your fab emails???
Hoppers! This is a call to action - other bun groups are working to make changes - this is the best chance we have to make a real difference!!! Please email Wilko's, post on their Fbk page and twitter!
Please please - If you haven't yet contacted The Range please do it at the same time !
This is our chance to lead the way and make real change!

Re: Hoppers! Call to action - Update...may be positive response
Actually - just had this post come through in response to an email to a lady who had written....
From Wilko: Hi Alison, we’ve taken note of recent valuable feedback from customers and the recommended rabbit hutch specifications suggested by various animal welfare bodies. As a result, we are now temporarily removing from sale those hutches which do not meet these recommendations and we’re busy sourcing new hutches which do comply. We’re passionate about the importance of ensuring that all pets are properly cared for and live a healthy, well-nourished and active life.
RESULT!
As such we should now be praising them and saying what a brilliant shop they are.....Show The Range how they are losing customers to a more responsible shop!

I think wilko have heard of the wrath of h.h.
they were very decent about it
but tbh as a retailer would it not make sense to do the homework first and check the requirements etc...

That's brilliant! I must admit Wilko's customer service has been brilliant for us in the past, and it does make all the difference

Re: Hoppers! Call to action - Update...may be positive response
They've replied to my FB post and it is so much more meaningful than a "We will continue to sell these while we look into it" like we got from The Range. I've said this:
as I really think if we can get one major retailer on board and then make a major deal of it, others will be forced to follow suit.
That is brilliant, thank you so much for responding so quickly. Are you aware that the rabbit community is desperate for a major retailer to take the initiative to work with the RWAF and ONLY sell hutches and runs of the recommended size? And that a retailer brave enough to be the first to do so would gain thousands of customers overnight? The RWAF could also advise you on suitable information to put into your literature regarding rabbits' needs.

Re: Hoppers! Call to action - Update...may be positive response
I think that we should also think about getting together with RWAF and other pressure groups and contact the BBC for The One Show and other programmes. Their PR people are usually desperate for something original about Easter and if they can connect animal welfare to it, especially in light of the ban on animal testing, we might be able to do something nationally.

Right, Wilkinsons are still selling unsuitable hutches on line. We need to get back to them about this.

Nickie - this is fantastic idea. SJ if you can pull a few strings that would be great. I will get back to the RWAF.

It's brilliant that they have responded so quickly. I have commented on the poor advice in the catalogue, will be interesting to see what response I get back.

Re: Hoppers! Call to action - Update...may be positive response
I am so pleased that Wilkos have addressed this issue and I hope that their unsuitable hutches are soon taken offline.
If we could get a slot on The One Show or similar that really would be brilliant.
This is a step in the right direction!

SJ - the RWAF would be happy to join forces with us if you are able to pull some strings. They have not offered to contact the BBC themselves. If you think the BBC may be interested we could contact Make Mine Chocolate too.

Re: Hoppers! Call to action - Update...may be positive response
Okay, I'll see what I can do. It might be that the best I can do is write them a letter, but use my "insider knowledge/tv brain" to write it in a way that will make them consider it, i.e ratings etc. But I do have a little group of friends who work there so will see if I can get them to put a word in, but often us graduates are at the bottom of the food chain at the moment so may not get a word in edgeways, but every little helps!
Ill write it over the weekend. Ill post it here to for you all to read x
