Apple sticks!
2 questions, 1. Is there any where I can buy apple sticks from?! Hector loves the little ones in one of his herb mixes but I haven't seen them for sale on their own, and 2. I am now the proud owner of an apple tree, I pruned it a smidgen when I planted it and I didn't know if I could give the prunings to hector or if they needed to dry first?

Re: Apple sticks!
You can give them as they are - Hector would prove that himself given half a chance to get at the trunk! Burgess do gnaw sticks - https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=burgess+sticks&aq=f&oq=burgess+sticks&aqs=chrome.0.57j0j62l3.3142j0&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#q=burgess+sticks&source=lnms&tbm=shop&sa=X&ei=i8p8Ub7RAcGIONP6gMAF&ved=0CAwQ_AUoAw&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.45645796,d.ZWU&fp=3cfdcf48561a6d4d&biw=1024&bih=653
(i woudn't buy the ones with the spaniel on!)
Now is not the time for pruning really. Ask around friends and family and see if anyone else has an apple tree and then put some requests in for any post fruiting trimmings. Not many people spray their apple trees so you should be ok.

Re: Apple sticks!
The problem with those is that it's a mix, hector doesn't like willow sticks, so the majority of the pack will be wasted

Re: Apple sticks!
We're the same, Humum has given up buying those packs too. She keeps meaning to get in touch with a local gardener or tree surgeon to see if she can blag some bun-friendly trimmings and even some big logs to go in the runs.Zo wrote:The problem with those is that it's a mix, hector doesn't like willow sticks, so the majority of the pack will be wasted
We do love the kiwi sticks from Wilko, but Humum is not sure what wood they actually are. She says she doubts they are made out of real New-Zealanders

Re: Apple sticks!
Oooh, we've just found this site and I think I might be spending quite some time (and some of Humum's money ) on it....
ETA, or not, as that seems to be the only thing they do for rabbits

Re: Apple sticks!
They look good!!!
Did you read this bit?

They're for rabbits, but hey, watch the sticks don't scratch your kid! Because rabbits can't be scratched by sticks. Ever.We do take care to ensure that there are not sharp ends on the sticks but as these are a natural product, they are somewhat rustic in appearance and by their nature, will always vary in size and shape.
Please take care with children and sticks!

Re: Apple sticks!
Zo, go to chinchillas2shop.co.uk. In their "wood chews" section they do loads of fruit twigs and cobs etc. You can buy Hector a bulk pack of 40 apple sticks for £8.99. Or, 12 sticks for £2.99 etc.
They're very reasonably priced and do some great other bits for buns as well

Re: Apple sticks!
Sparky's humum had a good idea about larger branches for the runs. Rory loves apple wood sticks.

Re: Apple sticks!
I've ordered a pack of 10 thick sticks, and a pack of 6 assorted thick sticks (both packs are different widths) from the chinchilla shop today, thank you Jess!
