Re: Worried about my bunny!
I will defer to my UK friends as what must be done to clean things. There is an old saying: When in doubt, scrub it out.
I am so grateful that the rabbit population here in the US is not yet threatened by this horrible illness.

Re: Worried about my bunny!
Soap is pretty effective as a skin cleaner so that is all you need for your feet. I would advise that you clean everything that the buns have had contact with so that is cages, runs, bowls etc.
Try not to worry too much about Henry - easier said than done I know - but each bun has a different natural defence against VHD. Some buns have mild symptoms then recover, others die quickly. Henry may well have better natural resistance.

I'm so sorry to hear you lost Daisy. She was beautiful. I'm sending you loads of hugs
I agree with everyone else re: cleaning everything thoroughly. Try not to worry about Henry - as Cheryl said he may well have a stronger system than Daisy had.
I've not got anymore advice to offer but I just wanted to let you know that you're in my thoughts xxxxx

Re: Worried about my bunny!
Oh Hunny,
I am so so so sorry, I have only just seen the post. I am gutted for you. Please like the others said - do not blame yourself, these things we cannot control .
Henry like others have said will have a stronger immune system and with you cleaning and stuff and taking those precautions I am sure the little sweetheart will be fine.
I really do not know what else to say, I know your pain and I just want you to know we care and give our love and support.

Re: Worried about my bunny!
Reading all this thread I don't think it was VHD but it's worth just cleaning everything anyway.
Don't blame yourself it happens to us all
Oh just seen the bit bleeding from the eyes oh dear , could be VHD but I hope it isn't.

Re: Worried about my bunny!
I am so sorry about Daisy, how incredibly sad
Nothing you said about her led any of us to think this might be the outcome, so please, please don't blame yourself
I really hope Henry is ok.
This might not be the time to offer, but whenever you are ready to consider another bun we'll happily take you to the rescue - if you wait until Henry has been neutered, he can come too and pick a nice girl for himself. The benefit is that a rescue bun will already be spayed and vaccinated, so less to worry about, and she'll be able to be with Henry straight away. Don't think it's only old bunnies in rescues, either - there are plenty of youngsters in need of forever homes too

I'm so very sorry to hear what has happened hunni - I agree with the others - it does sound like VHD sadly :-(
I don't have anything to add to the excellent advice given, but I am sending you my love.
Don't blame yourself hunni - you did everything you could for them both xxxx

Re: Worried about my bunny!
Hi thank you everyone! My dad doesn't have the funds to get he cremated we burried her In the front garden in a comfy shoe box with a warm blanket and some hay, away from the back. We cleaned her cage thoroughly and Henry seems a little low but not ill! Low because he's missing daisy. It's not the Same without her.. She was full of character and always had us laughing! Hopefully she's binkying away up there!! Xxxxxx
Shall I look into getting him a spayed female companion?

Re: Worried about my bunny!
Yes - most buns from rescue will be spayed before they go home. They will also have their vaccinations and the rescue will mostly likely know if they have any underlying issues such as dental problems.
How did you get on at the vets?

I'd wait until a few weeks after Henry is neutered, so he can go with her straight away.Daisy&Henry wrote:- thank you Sparky. What rescues do you recommend?
Several of our buns came from Tameside Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue, and they're all lovely buns.... even Gizmo...

Re: Worried about my bunny!
So sorry for your loss. It does sound like Daisy died from VHD which is so tragic when she was nearly old enough to be vaccinated. Henry maybe has a stronger system than she did as she was smaller, so hopefully he will get through this OK.

Re: Worried about my bunny!
Thank you everyone I've felt a lot better today and made Henry's run bigger and he seems happy. Daisy will always be in our thoughts.. I've mentioned her so much today I keep forgetting she's gone.
My mothers old friend was getting rid of a female 10 month old Lion head so I brought her home today. I had to get another as I felt as if Henry would of felt lost without another bunny. I just hope this little girl isn't pregnant as she said she was homed with another girl but Ruby (her name for the time being until we think of another or keep Ruby!) seems to be round around her stomach.
Still missing my Daisy doo! Hope she's very happy up there.

She was deteriorating as she had a operation and she can't deal with the bunnies.
