Best place to go for hutches?
Hey guys, I haven't been on here for a while.
I've been looking everywhere to get a triple hutch (no ramps, 3 sleeping compartments). I need it to be as cheap as can be but good quality.
If anyone knows of anyone that will build one or know of anywhere that sells them, please do tell me. It's driving me nuts looking for one.

Hudad can build you one. It won't necessarily be "cheap" but it will be solid and it will last. At a rough guess, a 6x2x2 triple would be around £200-£250 to build plus cake

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
Thank's for your offer but that's too expensive I'm a student so I can't get a hold of that much money. I have around £50 a month left after buying all necessary bedding/substrate/food/toys etc for my buns. So saving up for that price would be a long time and I really need one as soon as. I found a 3 story, 3ft long on eBay for £95 but I'm not sure If I want to get them a 3ft long, they deserve and need bigger.Father Jack wrote:Hudad can build you one. Thank you all, I will sure be staying. Blue is a 6 month old mini rex buck. Ruby is a 13 month old single maned lionhead, so I have been told. Then my little Henry, who I am sure is a lionhead cross.

Are you thinking 3 storey so that they can have a level each?

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
It's for outdoors, at the moment Ruby and Henry are in 3ft singles and Blue is in a 2ft single with run attached all in my shed. That's why I desperately need one asap as I feel really bad with Blue in a 2ft hutch.
Ok Father Jack, thank you

I know, that's why I desperately need bigger ones. I feel bad with them in them hutches. They each have a couple of hours a day in a large run though, but they still need bigger and better hutches Yeah, thanks x

It's not a problem The hoomin would only spend money on what humum terms "junk" anyway And if it helps buns then it's worth it

You say they are in a shed? Maybe hudad could modify that instead? Do you have any pics of it?

It's a 10ft by 8ft shed but it's being used as a gym as it's my parents. They're allowing me to house the buns in there over winter though.

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
Ruby has 6 kits in the nest at the moment, this was an unplanned pregnancy. She went for a vet check and they asked if I wanted to get her spayed and terminate the babies but I felt awful. I'm keeping a doe out of her litter and housing her with Ruby and 2 family members want one each. I just need to find homes for the last 3. This is why I'm wanting a more upgraded hutch for the lot.
I don't want to house the boys together as they aren't neutered either and I don't want fights. I'm due to be starting work in November, so with my first pay I am thinking of getting the boys done.

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
Good idea. You will need to get the girls done as well to prevent uterine cancer. Once this is done you could probably end up with 2 pairs and much happier buns.

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
I am really wanting to get Ruby done also and if I decide to keep a doe from her litter, I want to get her done as well when she's old enough. I'm saving up for a hutch at the moment and then once I've bought them one, I'm going to book the boys in and then eventually the girls. Is Ruby not too old? (Well she's still young, but old for surgery?) She's 13months.

13 months is fine so long as she's healthy in herself

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
It's never too old to spay a doe, rescues do it all the time - they only might not spay for health reasons, not age alone. A lot of the older does they get in have already developed uterine cancer and the spay saves their lives.
I'd agree with Cheryl that you'll almost certainly be better off aiming for two boy / girl pairs, then you only need two good set-ups.
Our vet charges around £65 to neuter a boy and about £80 to spay a doe.
Humum loves Ruby so whatever you do, don't let her come and look at the kits...

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
Ok, thank you. I am going to get the boys done probably after Christmas and then Ruby & if I decide to keep a doe, the doe too, after the boys. I was just going to house the boys separately and the girls together, but I may do it the boy/girl way.Sparky wrote:It's never too old to spay a doe, rescues do it all the time - they only might not spay for health reasons, not age alone. She's very welcome to come and look After all they do need homes! It's still critical stage though as they are only 4 days old and Ruby is a first time mum. I'm going to get some Lactol Puppy Milk and Pro C Probiotics and syringe feel the smallest two with mikki mothering kit once a day as well as them getting milk off mum during the night. It'll break my heart if any pass away.

Re: Best place to go for hutches?
I'm not an expert but I don't think you should give them puppy milk. Unless they are ill you should leave them to mums milk. Please correct me if I'm wrong hoppers.
